When choosing a boat, take into consideration your financial situation. It is very important to set a budget or your choices can confuse you!Plan on the size of storage and what types of water you are going to fish in.
How many people will be with you most of time you go fishing? There should be enough space for everyone. It is bot dangerous, stuffy and unpleasant to board a crowded boat.
What To Look For In A Boat
Consider first where are you going to fish most of the time.To fish in the open water, you'll need a larger boat and one that has at least 18 degrees of deadrise or a catamaran to help you move through the rough waters. In the bow area, make sure that there's a lot of freeboard.
To fish in shallow water, what you need is a significantly different boat. You want a light boat with a flat hull that will draw less water. A jack plate will be necessary for really shallow water.
As far as motor goes, I would recommend you go the biggest your boat can support. Your boat will be much easier to handle with its motor size maxed out.
A sufficient amount of space to store your rods and other essential gears.
Plan for what fishes you are going to fish for. Be sure that your boat is large enough to store your fish.
If you are planning on using the live baits, make sure your boat has a livewell with a large volume tank and recirculating pump. It should be placed near the centreline to reduce listing.
If you are planning on using lures instead, you'll prefer more deck space with comfortable places to cast from than a large above-deck well.
Aluminum or fiberglass? It all depends on your needs and preference. If you are mostly fishing in rivers I would recommedn aluminum due to the high amount of rocks. However, if you are fishing in lakes with docks, a fiberglass will do.
