Fitness and Exercise after 40

Reaching Middle Age can be a sort of sudden jolt for many people. If you want to stay fit after 40 then you have to change your lifestyle.

It doesn't matter how much you have failed in the past to get fit - Your life starts again NOW and its by no means the end of the line  - what you have to do is accept what you have and make the most of it.


A Major change you should now make is to change to a Healthy Diet

There is no ONE SIMPLE SOLUTION

You have to view your whole life and lifestyle as one to try to improve it

Most people's problems are :

Sudden weight gain. Many people put on weight - this is normal.

Lack of Energy

Drinking Alcohol

Lack of Exercise

Poor Diet

All of these are linked but no one item will solve all of those problems. 

The thing to do is to take each problem and try to either solve it or reduce your dependence on it.



If you take small steps to improve your lifestyle you will find this easier - expecting a sudden miracle will usually lead to a relapse to your current habits. 

Even a small amount of exercise helps - yes even walking the dog


(it will help the dog too !)


A major cause of unfitness is snacks and Junk Food.

How to Lose 10 Pounds 

Lose weight for Christmas

If you try TOO hard to lose weight you'll just give up. Do it gently and the excess weight WILL just fade away and you'll be delighted with the result.
  • Don't eat Cakes Cakes zip straight round your waist !
  • Cut out Potato Chips ENTIRELY
  • Don't eat Biscuits - they are full of SUGAR !
  • Cut down on ALCOHOL (especially Beer) This is really the best way to lose a few pounds
  • Try to touch your Toes (from standing - don't cheat !)
    Just try it twice a day - it will help your waist muscles.
  • Cut right down on POTATOES - one or two small ones are ok.
  • Walk to the shops instead of driving.
  • Go Swimming twice a week.
    (Actually this may not lose weight but make you slimmer and better looking) Its great and easy exercise.

Christmas was good - BUT.... 

We ate and drank just a TINY bit too much didn't we ?

Supermarkets are mostly to blame - those luscious displays are MEANT to tempt us into buying stuff like Candied Fruits,Chocolate,Mince Pies and worst of all - Christmas Pudding with Cream !
And they work - we all do it - Oh well it's just a little extra at Christmas... and Auntie Jane might come round so I'd better have some chocolate chip cookies for her ... tha's how it goes isn't it ?
And those New Year Resolutions didn't last long did they ?

OK - how about starting again today ?
That saying about today being the first day of your new life is true you know !
Start off slowly - cut out a few things (or give some away to a neighbour) then get up half an hour early (I know,I know - that duvet is sooo.. snuggleable !) get a tracksuit on (you don't have to dress up for this) .. and go for a stroll - not a JOG - jogging is too much to start with. for half an hour (If you get bored take an ipod to !)
Make yourself do it - and when you get back have a HEALTHY breakfast - how about Yoghurt with honey or strawberries ? (and a cereal of course).
Cut down the amount of sugar in your coffee to half the usual amount.
This should get you started on the road to fitness and weight loss easily.

The Fun way to get Fit

Remember when you were 20 ?
You were slim and lusty too ....
Sex is the easiest and most fun way to improve your fitness.
I don't advocate an extra-marital affair but you may certainly spice up your sex life a little with naughty books,dvds/videos etc.

Don't forget that you may not be as attractive to your partner as you once were any more. Change your appearance with new fashionable clothes and maybe a new haircut.
What I'm saying is don't let yourself go - complacency is only too easy - and that Friday night lovemaking could easily be expanded into a nightly game. Use some imagination too - or just get some advice from a book.
One thing is for certain though - your body won't slim down or get fitter on it's own.
Sex is great exercise and burns off calories like crazy (don't forget to try new positions !) and strengthens muscles which strengthen your body.

If you are on your own then why not try a dating service /agency Not everyone is loking for adult fun - you could well end up in a long term loving relationship. (and lose weight too !)
