Welcome to this site created to show you why fitness is one of the best gifts you can give yourself and how to get started even if you only have 20 minutes a day to fit it into your busy lifestyle. My name is Anne Iarchy and I am a North London personal trainer based in Barnet who runs weekly strength training fitness classes in Barnet.

We all know that exercise is a great way to lose weight and tone up and we all know when we don't engage in regular exercise that our body begins to age quickly and early, it suffers from aches and pains that are avoidable, we don't always sleep well and doing the simplest of things like climbing stairs becomes difficult.

Quick and easy tips to fitness

If you think you don't have time to exercise think again

Fitness classes BarnetHow about this: instead of going to lunch with clients every day of the week, why don't you schedule lunch meetings for say Monday and Tuesday? This way you can incorporate a fitness routine for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 12:00 to 1:00 pm.

If your schedule gets you up and running beginning at 6 in the morning until 6 in the evening, this day represents 12 hours. There are 24 hours in a day and we're not recommending you get up at 2 in the morning to do your exercise but you could wake up 30 minute earlier.

One easy way to do this is to do yoga in the morning (it requires only a mat and comfortable, loose clothing), turn on a CD/DVD, buy a treadmill (the foldable ones) that you can jump into as soon as you wake up.

If you need help staying focused hiring your own personal trainer can help :-)

Why not try waking up just 30 minutes earlier and use the extra time for some type of physical activity. If you do this three times a week, that means you get 90 minutes of exercise each week.

Another tip is to take a brisk walk inside or outside the office building, a quick swim in the neighborhood hotel pool, a Pilates course in the recreational centre, lifting dumb bells while on the phone?

Doing any form of these exercises is better than no exercise. Your guiding principle should be to move, move, move as frequently as you can manage it.

Try coming up with your own exercise routine because that will be more fun and make it easier for you to stick to and make sure you use alternate days to give your muscles a rest. Monday, Weds and Friday is usually the easiest time to remember for people - and you get the weekends off!

Why bother with fitness?

Isn't this something we already know?

Fitness classes BarnetWe already know how fitness can improve the way we look and feel. It also helps our mood and general mental health and outlook on life.

We also know that a lack of exercise has been linked to some pretty major diseases and illnesses that can strike you down and kill you.

We also know that the older you get the more chances you have of being struck down by one of these major illnesses.

So do I really need to go into why you should exercise?

The things is KNOWING you need to exercise isn't enough. You actually need to TAKE ACTION and start exercising

Our body is actually very patient and very forgiving. No matter how little exercise you have done up to this point as long as you start doing something it will respond. Just a 10 minute walk every day will make a huge difference to your life. You may not notice the effects immediately, it may take several months but it is still better than doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Once a major illness does hit our body it can be difficult if not impossible to go back to the way things were so don't wait until until a major disaster - finess is a preventative method and prevention is better than cure!

It is not just about fitness

Is is about food too

Let's not forget your fuel - the food you put into your body every single day. Getting into an exercise routine is great but if you are stuffing yourself full of processed food then you are still making life a little harder for your body than it needs to be. Also don't run low on gas, otherwise your body cannot achieve optimum fitness performance. Eating little and often can help, have snacks that you can easily reach for in your desk and/or bag/briefcase.

You can store things like fruit, nuts, sesame snacks, dried fruit, baby carrots, cereal flakes and oatmeal bars should keep you on the go during the day and is better than eating crisps and other high fat processed foods. If you're pressed for time to sit down for a proper meal, these portable foods will tide you over, in a healthy and nutritious way.

Life is all about choices

What to eat and when to exercise

Personal trainer Barnet

You have a choice. What is good for your body and what isn't. Your choice is not only with food but with exercise too!
