Fitness Defined

Physical fitness comprises two related concepts: general fitness (a state of health and well-being) and specific fitness (a task-oriented definition based on the ability to perform specific aspects of sports or occupations).

In previous years, fitness was commonly defined as the capacity to carry out the day's activities without undue fatigue. However, as automation increased leisure time, changes in lifestyles following the industrial revolution rendered this definition insufficient. These days, physical fitness is considered a measure of the body's ability to function efficiently and effectively in work and leisure activities, to be healthy, to resist hypokinetic diseases, and to meet emergency situations.

Beauty and Fitness

Health is wealth. By being physically fit, you'll feel better and look better.

There's a lot you can do to get physically fit such as jogging or walking, playing basketball or many other sports. If your goal is to have muscles and look lean, the best thing to do will be to workout in a gym or with gym-like equipment in your home.

Keep in mind that just like taking any medicine, you should first consult your doctor before undergoing any form of exercise.

Physical exercise is beneficial because it helps maintain and improve your health from a variety of diseases and may help prevent premature death. It also makes a person feel happier and increases self esteem, which can help alleviate depression or anxiety. Studies have also shown that a person with an active lifestyle will most likely live longer than a person who isn't very active.

The best exercise plan will encompass both cardiovascular and weight training exercises. This combination helps burn calories and increase the muscle to fat ratio, which will in turn increase your metabolism and give you more energy. An increase in metabolsim will usually result in weight loss.

A person who has never worked out before should do it gradually. Doing it too much for the first time can result in pulled muscles or injury. Endurance will never be built in one day; consistency is key to long term fitness.

Here are some things you can do everyday to improve your chances of staying fit and healthy;

· Read books and other reading material often to help keep your mind sharp; just like working out keeps your body in shape, your mind needs to "exercise" too.

· Take steps to alleviate stress. Take the time out to do something special like lying in a hot tub, shopping or watching a movie.

· Pollution is something people cannot control given the size of the problem. Be sure to use some form of protection such as beauty products that contain antioxidants that protect the skin from damage.

· Another way to stay healthy is to give up some vices. Most people smoke and drink. Smoking has been proven to cause lung cancer and other diseases as well complications for women giving birth. Excessive drinking has been shown to be just as damaging.

· For people who don't smoke, it is best to stay away from people who do since studies have shown that nonsmokers are also at risk of developing cancer due to secondary smoke inhalation.

· Lastly, it is best to try to always have a positive outlook. Just as studies have shown that exercise makes a person feel happier, smiling produces a similar effect. A smile can do a lot and it is contagious in a positive sense. A smile can help brighten everyone's day.
