#1. Set your quit date. Maybe one week or maybe two weeks. That way you can prepare yourself to quit smoking. You won't feel as anxious.
#2. Exercise. Go for walks. After meals when you crave that after I eat cigarette, go for a walk or do some form of exercise. This will keep your mind off of quitting smoking. It is hard to think about smoking when your huffing and puffing or better yet maybe you will blame smoking and reconfirm that I want to quit smoking feeling.
#3. Start a hobby. Find a hobby that will require you to keep your hands busy or needs your total concentration. A lot of people miss holding the cigarette so by keeping your hands busy it will make it easier to quit smoking and you won't want to munch out of boredom either.
#4. Chew gum or have sugar free candy on hand. When you get a strong craving for a cigarette, take out a peice of gum or candy--just like you would a cigarette, slowly unwrap it and enjoy it. The craving for a cigarette will pass.
#5. Keep a toothpick or a straw handy. Sounds silly I know but it really will work. When that craving comes at you just push it away by gnawing on that toothpick or straw. This will keep your hands and your mouth busy. Two very important things when you are trying to quit smoking.
