Fixing a Flat Tire

In 30 years of driving cars, I've had 2 flat tires. The first flat tire was 14 years ago on I4 highway in Florida. At that time a kind gentleman stopped when he saw me struggling to get the spare tire out of the car trunk.

My second flat tire happened today when my husband and I drove over a nail. We heard the tell tale flop flop flop sound and thought it was probably a bad tire. We pulled into a store parking lot and found the flat!

How We Changed a Flat Tire - Step 1

The following videos show you exactly how we (my husband) changed the flat tire we got today. Also, Remember to set your transmission to park and set the emergency brake on before you look for the car jack.

Step One - get the car jack out of the trunk and set it up under the car frame near the flat tire.

Changing a Flat Tire - Step Two

Loosen and Remove the lug nuts from the flat tire. The nuts are probably very tight and hard to loosen. See the hint about using your foot.

Changing a Flat Tire - Step 3

You may have to use the car jack to raise the car body high enough to put on the spare tire.

Changing a Flat Tire - Step 4

The spare tire is installed, lug nuts tightened, and you have changed tires.

I really dislike changing tires myself, so I have AAA. I do know how to do it, though - Dad taught me all the basics when he taught me to drive 40 years ago, including "left foot clutch OR dimmer switch, right foot brake OR gas!" Great idea to turn a flat tire adventure into a tutorial lens! 5*s - would you like to join the Senior Geek Squids group?
