The question comes up too often to ignore. "How can I speed up my pc?". Studies have shown that many users get frustrated with their computers for one reason or another. The common faults usually relate to the speed of the machine, the operating system, and technology that does not really work. If you are sick and tired of a slow computer that crashes often, and loses data frequently, there is help.It does not help that even though you have a fast Internet connection, it takes forever to open web pages, and get to where you want to go.
Whatever your specific computer problems are, there are solutions. I can usually speed up my pc by following a few tried and proven steps. You can do the same too.
1. The first thing you can do is to remove unused programs from your computer.
If you have had your computer for at least a year, you can be sure that you have hundreds of megabyte of data on it that you are not using and may never use. It's time to remove them. You can do this by opening "My computer", right-clicking on drive c:, then look for the tab "disk cleanup". These old files do slow down your computer, especially those that automatically load themselves into memory when you start up your pc.
2. Free up extra space by doing a disk optimization.
You will be surprised at the fact that how data is stored on your hard disk can materially affect the speed of the machine. You can speed up your pc by doing a disk de-fragmentation. This utility is found under AllPrograms, Accessories, System Tools. This really should be done at least once every 6 months or so. It takes a while but with a little patience, I can usually speed up my pc quite a bit, every time I do this.
3. Fix and clean up the Windows registry.
This is the most important step you can take. Unless you have a registry cleaner, the Windows registry is normally filled with errors and corrupted data. These will slow down your CPU remarkably. Whenever someone asks me - How can I speed up my PC - I tell them clean their registry! They are shocked by all the corrupted and unused data that is in this folder. There is a word of caution however. Make sure that you use an approved software such as System Mechanic to do this. You will not want to do any damage to these files because you are uncertain of what to do. Following these steps, I can speed up my pc anytime.
