How to Easily Fix Rundll32 Error...Manually!

Rundll32.exe is always located at WindowsSystem32Rundll.exe, so if you see two processes with the same name running from different locations, then there is a high chance that your computer is infected. That is pretty easy if you are on Windows Vista or Windows 7. You can do fix the problem manually but I would suggest to let someone who knows around computers perform this. All you need to do is open the Task Manager and enable the option that will let you view the full path of every process. Here is what you need to do:

1. Open the Task Manager
2. Go to the View Tab
3. You will see a list with checkboxes. Check the Command Line option.

Now you will be able to see the full path for each file running rundll32.exe and then check whether it is in the System32 directory or not. To see what exactly is running the process, you need to hover your mouse pointer over the file name in question. If it's not running in the System 32 folder, then immediately scan your computer with a good antivirus and antispyware program. Windows XP users will have to use a program called Process Explorer to get all the necessary information, because XP Task Manager doesn't let you see the full path. Process manager is a free Microsoft utility that does not need to be installed. Simply double click it on the .exe file to launch it.

Another option is to locate a copy of the rundll32.exe file on your system.
Check in the folder C:\windows\system32\dllcache if you find a copy of the rundll32.exe. Copy and paste it into C:\windows\system32

If you don't have a copy in C:\windows\system32\dllcache check the folder C:\windows\SericePackFiles\i386

Lastly, you can check if you find a copy of Rundll32.exe on the Windows installation disks.
