A credit score is really the sum of 3 things.

1. The amount of credit that you already have.

2. Whether you make payments on time.

3. And how much money you owe.

Work on these, and you can fix your credit score.

Why is it so important to have a good credit score?

Your credit score shows other how well you have handled the credit that others have given you in the past. You might say that it like a mirror that gives a reflection. Being given credit is a privilege. Before others also give you more credit, they need to see how you have handled your previous credit.

Always remember the principal of cause and effect. Whenever you make a choice you also choose the consequences.

If you have a bad credit score it is usually because of choices that you have made or have been made for you.

These things are worth repeating.

* Pay your bills on time. Pay a little ahead of time and a little more than is required. For some bills like a credit card, make sure you know when your due date is. You may need to adjust it to work with when your money comes in.

* Make sure you meet the minimum monthly payment due. If possible pay a little more even if it is just a few dollars.

* Know what credit limits are and do not exceed the amount. On a credit card you are charged usually a $39. fee for exceeding your limit. That fee can go a long way to getting your fixing your credit score.

* Don't hang on to unused accounts. They look at the activity. If you have one that has not been used for a long time, you may think about closing it, especially if it is carrying high annual fees and interest rates.

* A good policy is to limit your self to no more than three credit cards. And never carry more than one when you go shopping. It is always a temptation to use more.

* Keep an ongoing record with your card, just as you do your checking account. It is of utmost importance to know where your credit score stands.

Remember there is always hope of fixing your credit score so that you will be able to have loans and credit when you need it. Emergencies, wants, needs are always coming up. Now is the time to start working to fix a bad credit score.
