Fixing up My Laundry Room!

Ranked #30,746 in Hobbies, Games & Toys, #680,130 overall

Fixing up my laundry room....

...so I can sell or rent my house... And LUCKY YOU - this is the first room I chose to work on!!!!

This lens is one of several about how I am trying to improve my whole house, inside out, by myself and on a tight budget, in order to make it saleable or rentable by fall of 2010.

This is an extension of my Main Page, Fixing Up my House to Sell. You can read there why and what I'm doing .. and even make your own comments and predictions!

I decided that most, if not all, of the rooms need their own lens to show the details of what needs to be done, and what is being done on them. As I work, there will (God, I HOPE) be after pictures, too!

Doing my renovations this way is an attempt to motivate myself into action, as well as to help others who think things like this are too much and can't be done - as well as to inspire procrastinators to stop procrastinating so they won't BE in this position!

Room by Room

These are Links to my Lenses for the Other Rooms..
The main lense - Fixing up my house to sell
My yard -- the biggest section needing work - and what buyers see first - they might not even stop it unless I fix it up!
Fixing up my Living Room
The first room people enter -- second impression (after the outside)... this tiny room will need some serious staging help after it's cleaned up.
The Outside - Fixing Up My Yard
This is the Lens that shows the Outside -- more pictures ...
Most likely this will be the last area to be done. Why? Because it's the Outside -- the roof needs to be done, but not badly - so Spring or Summer of 2010.
Fixing Up My Kitchen
This is the lens for my kitchen AND pantry - with the details on what needs to be done, what is being done and how...
Fixing up My Master Bedroom
My Master Bedroom is Master by 1960's standards -- but I have some ideas once my 18 year old gets off to school......
Fixing Up My Second Bedroom
The second bedroom may not need as much work -- but it needs some.. see what it needs...
Fixing up My 3rd bedroom - guest room - office
A tiny room, but with many possibilities --this needs a tidying up but most of the work is in the presentation!

About the laundry room...

The laundry room is off the Family room, which was the Garage.

It's tiny, which is why I thought it would be a great place to start. This is where the control box is for electricity. In addition to the washer dryer, it was filled with

* clothes that are going to Goodwill / yard sales
* small pieces of furniture (now moved into another room for future yard sale things).
* Paint cans with paint used around the house.
* Cat litter box.
* Dressing bureau with clothes ( bureau to be sold in the yard sale)
* Two inexpensive bookcases (also for the yard sale)
* Books (now moved to the Living Room to be sold on E-bay or BlueJay and then yard saled)
* Laundry baskets
* Hanging device with clothing
* Yard sale items / repair items

All that remains now is to paint the walls a creamy off white. I'll have to move and/or cover furniture, washing machine and clothing. Yuck.

This took about six hours if you don't count the time taken to wash the laundry (load two is spinning now) to pre-wash the giveaway/ to sell clothes.

This isn't just about cleaning the room - it's also about sorting things, deciding what to give away and prepping things to give away.

Some cool things I found

I love sorting and cleaning once I start doing it. I always find things I thought were forever lost, things I forgot I had, things I was going to go out and buy more of
things things things...

So, I now have some Christmas shopping done and it's only August!!!!

Here's some of the things I found!
  1. $19.26 in coins
  2. A really nice gift someone gave me that I never opened-- suitable for regifting, it's the perfect gift for someone on my Christmas list!
  3. Another gift I bought but forgot where I put it (it was still in the original shipping box).
  4. A set of earrings I forgot I had
  5. A favorite earring that matches one that's in my room -- I was about to give up!
  6. A can of that spray you use to unwrinkle your clothes -- I have been looking for some!
  7. A tiny ironing board, meant for ironing shirts. It would be great for an RV.
  8. Two, count them two good as new laundry hampers! Behind the washer, my son needs one for school (he always needs a new one). I don't have to spend money on a new one!!
  9. A whole bag of yarn I didn't know was there to either add to yarn I'm keeping, or to yard sale yarn to sell...

What I realized

After doing this one small room I
suddenly
realize
what a
HUGE
thing I've undertaking.
But,
if I want to be able to go on the road
I need to rent or sell the house.
To do that,
I'll need to repeat this
with every room. This was the smallest
and this was not easy.
OMG,
what am I
doing????

Avet Brothers Laundry room
