Fixing Up My Living Room ....

...so I can sell or rent my house... And LUCKY YOU - you're here in the BEFORE and DURING stage!!! That's right -- so far, there's no AFTER or HOW TO.

This lens is one of several about how I am trying to improve my whole house, inside out, by myself and on a tight budget, in order to make it saleable by fall of 2010.

This is an extension of my Main Page, Fixing Up my House to Sell. You can read there why and what I'm doing .. and even make your own comments and predictions!

I decided that most, if not all, of the rooms need their own lens to show the details of what needs to be done, and what is being done on them. As I work, there will (God, I HOPE) be after pictures, too!

Doing my renovations this way is an attempt to motivate myself into action, as well as to help others who think things like this are too much and can't be done - as well as to inspire procrastinators to stop procrastinating so they won't BE in this position!

So, this is about the living room, which right now seems to be one of the ones that requires the least expensive work (hurrah) though that may come back and surprise me at some point.

It clearly needs a lot of clearing out of "stuff" - in the pictures you'll see that I'm using it as a storage for things, mostly things to give away (books to family).

Good Size but the windows...

These windows have been a curse since I moved in -- I had window people look at them and they kind of shook their heads.

So, I think they should just be left as is.

* Except windows need to be cleaned
* Refinish the very nice original wooden floors (here and all through the house).
* Paint the walls a nice off white.
* Patch the ceiling and any marks in the walls

These are Links to my Lenses for the Other Rooms..
The main lense - Fixing up my house to sell
This is where it all starts -- with an explanation and overview
Fixing up My Laundry Room
This is where I started (August 11, 2009). One tiny step for mekind....
The Great Outdoors - Fixing Up My Yard
My yard -- the biggest section needing work - and what buyers see first - they might not even stop it unless I fix it up!
Fixing Up My Kitchen
An important room, the kitchen! And mine needs help... the Pantry is kind of useless, but could be converted into a 2nd bathroom.. maybe...
Fixing up My Master Bedroom
This Master Bedroom is a 1960's size and style -- but I have some ideas...
Fixing Up My Second Bedroom
The second bedroom may not need as much work -- but it needs some.. see what it needs...
Fixing up the 3rd bedroom - guest room - office
A tiny room, but with many possibilities --this needs a tidying up but most of the work is in the presentation!

It's a small world after all....

Because this room needs the least expensive work -- and it's the first one people come into -- I thought it might be best approached by staging it. Eventually. Clean clean clean up, away with the excess furniture...these books seem like they will be of help.. I am gonna browse them...

I just think this is such a cool idea for lenses, so we can follow along. Be sure to Squidcast as you make changes.
