A Fjordhorse is...


The Norwegian Fjord Horse is a small purebred horse of dun color with a distinctive dorsal stripe. The origin of the horse predates written history, but the Norwegian government has maintained official records of the breed since 1849.

Size - From 13 to 15 hands and weighs from 1000 to 1400 pounds

Military use is important as they are able to go where motorized vehicles and heavier horses must give up

Best mountain army horse in the world.

Can pull up to seven thousand pounds of weight

The most common colour is brown dun, but they can also be reddish-brown, or almost white

The rarest colour is gray. Sometimes gray horses have black or dark gray colours.

Most common is buckskin in colour

Fjord Draft Horses 

The Fjord horse has been used historically as a war horse, a draft horse for logging and farming, a pack horse, a carriage horse and a riding pleasure horse. In the European communities today the Fjord horse is primarily a family horse who is bred and used for many purposes. The quality and versalitility of the Fjord is maintained by the evaluation process in each country.

They are a very quiet, domesticated animal. If you're are a farmer and want a good work horse, maybe you should buy a fjord. They're great for riding, and  packing and they can pull any farm equipment you want to.

The Fjord horse is extremely versatile and is happiest when working. In the past, Fjords were used in their mother country of Norway for farming. Today they still excel in all forms of draft work. The tourist industry along the West Country of Norway uses the Fjord horse as an important means of transportation and as a representative of Norwegian culture.
