Review of FL Studio v10
I recently downloaded FL Studio 10, or as I knew it before as Fruity Loops, and as a newbie to there program I was a little surprised by it. First off a little back story. I have used non-linear editing software before to edit together audio, and to date adobe audition is still my favorite. I heard a lot of hype about FL Studio from a guy that was big into making rap beats, and he told me that I have to check it out to add some drums to my original songs. The concept was very appealing to me because all I have to record songs with is a small microphone that attaches into my computer, and it would never pick up a real drums worth a crap. I thought that if I can make the drum beats in this program then I could come up with some pretty cool songs. The only problem is that I've never used this software and before I dropped some money on it I wanted to check it out. I downloaded a free demo of it to see what this baby could do and was I in for a surprise.

FL Studio 10:
Review
As I said in the introduction this was my first time ever trying to mess around on any FL Studio program, and with anything I found myself thinking about the pros and cons of this product. I personally like the compliment sandwich approach to criticism so here it goes.
The Pros: This program allows you to make pretty cool sounding beats without really knowing that much about playing the drums. When you start a new project you can start a template with four basic options:kick, clap, hat and snare. Once you've got that opened you can start building your first beat in the pattern screen that comes up. I like how you can click the buttons while the songs playing and keep adding to it while the song is looping. It almost takes no time to get something that sounds kind of interesting. The whole time I was messing around on it I was thinking "wow, some Joe Shmoe, in corporate America, would love these beats to put behind his powerpoint presentation on synergy , or something."
The Cons: One of the things that I found very frustrating was the fact that there was just data overload when the program starts up. There's a lot of things going on that can be clicked, pushed, dragged, pulled, and overall messed with on the screen. For my purposes I wanted to add drums to a song that I recorded, but it became very clear this was not going to be easy to just figure out. There was a lot of tutorials on youtube on how to do certain tasks but even in those videos there was so many things to adjust and tinker with it seemed to get me no where.
Conclusion: I am kind of torn about this program. I don't like how its very un-user friendly for the first time user, but the fact that there is so many options means you have a lot of control over the exact sound you want. For what I was trying to use it for, I don't think it would be worth the time to learn all that the program has to offer. This product would work very well for someone that wants to lay beats for rap, techno, dance, party music, and that kind of stuff. For music and that purpose I definitely recommend taking the time to learn FL Studio 10. As for me, I was able to find an awesome website that had 4x4 rock beats up for grabs, and that was a lot easier then taking months learning how to work this program.

Audio Software
That I Recommend
Some of the times some software is just tried and true. Adobe Audition and Pro Tools will get the job done. When I worked in radio we used Adobe Audition, and when I worked in a digital signage company we used Audition. When I was training in college on audio editing we used Pro Tools. If you want to use what the professionals use then I would definitely try out this software.
