New Ford Trucks May Blow Flames out Tailpipe
Ford Motor Company issued a memo to their dealerships telling them to stop selling and demonstrating 34K of their F250 and larger SuperDuties with the new 6.4L diesel engine. There is a risk of actual flames shooting out from the tailpipes.
Despite some people finding this to be a positive, Ford is not taking any chances. There have been no reported injuries, but those trucks that have not been sold must be fixed before they can be driven. Several thousand have already been sold. The owners are being notified.
Ford received poor reviews and negative publicity when they replaced the 7.3L diesel in 2003 with a smaller 6.0L. Panned by critics for being flawed and requiring too much shop time, Ford launched a 10,000,000 mile testing program on the new engine before releasing it earlier this year.
Apparently, nobody noticed fire coming out of the tailpipes until now.
