Long-term and short-term flats in Barcelona
One of the most difficult things about living in Barcelona is finding accommodation (decent accommodation).
This lens gives advice on how to find a flat to rent in Barcelona (short-term and long-term rentals), recommends tried and trusted rental agencies as well as giving links to web pages listing apartments for rent.
I moved to Barcelona almost three years ago, and I wish I had known then what I know now about the best ways to find a flat. If you're about to do the same thing, this lens will help you.

Finding a flat or room to rent in Barcelona
How to find an agent, or go direct to the property owners
There are many, many property agents in Barcelona and you have to be careful that you don't get involved with some of the more unscrupulous ones. However, if you don't speak Spanish, using an agent who speaks English is probably the only way to proceed.
I now live in Barcelona and when I first arrived I moved many times and used several agencies. Some of these accommodation agents I can highly recommend and others I definitely can't!
I have created a web page where you can find listings of tried and trusted accommodation rental agencies in Barcelona. People here speak English and will help you find a flat for rent in Barcelona.
Two of the agencies listed on the above page are online services and here you will need to have at least a basic knowledge of Spanish:
www.idealista.com
www.coleadministradors.com
These are both excellent services and it's possible to browse through all the flats they have for rent online. However, at the end of the day you have to make that phone call in Spanish to the agency, and at these two places they don't often speak English.
All of the other rental agents listed on my accommodation page do speak English though :-)
Classified Ads - Go direct to the owners
The standard agency fee in Barcelona is one month's rent, so you save quite a lot of money by going directly to the owner.
Even if you don't speak Spanish it's worth checking out this option as those Spanish property owners who do speak English will often list or advertise their properties in English.
Whether you're searching for a room to rent in a house with other people or for a flat or apartment one of the best places to look is www.loquo.com. Here you can search by price range and area of the city and flats and apartments for rent are listed under owner or agent. Ads are mainly in Spanish, but there are quite a few in English too.

The problem with some of these classified websites is that sometimes the information given isn't very detailed and amazingly not all of them show photos.
The following link goes to a listing of properties available for rent in Barcelona, and gives plenty of information, photos and the owners' contact details so you can contact them directly.:

- Great lens!
When I first moved to Barcelona I found it super difficult finding a place to live. Now I work for an apartment rental company who rent short term accommodation to tourists!
Visit my lens for more info! Thanks!
