Flea Treatment & Flea Protection

Flea treatment for our pets is a worldwide problem. Today, we have many different types of pets. These pets range from dogs, cats, ferrets, pigs and many other exotic animals. Whenever you have pets, fleas are not far away. Our pets pick up the pesky little flea when they are let outside to play, or they are walked in the park. The flea is a small, wingless insect that is an external parasite. They live off the blood of mammals and birds.

We often mistakenly believe that fleas fly. This is because they have the incredible capability to jump great distances. They are also very fast and very small. Once your pet is infested, the fleas multiply very quickly. Laying hundreds of larvae, if not checked they can quickly take over your house. Most people are not aware that fleas will also lay their larvae in your carpet or other suitable material.

If you allow your pets on your furniture and they have fleas, chances are you have had the little buggers jump onto you. You have probably been bitten and did not even know it. They often get into our beds and attack us around the ankle and feet. If your family is being bitten by fleas, it is time to take action.

Most of the time, flea infestation does not get this bad. At the first sign that your pets have fleas you need to take swift action to eliminate them. To eliminate the fleas you should do the following:

* Treat your pet. You need to immediately eradicate the fleas on all your pets. There are several good products available today. You can purchase these at your local veterinarian, local superstore, or from Hyperdrug Equine Pharmacy. Some of these products are: advantage, frontline plus, and revolution. There are others. The important thing is to remove the infestation from your pet. It is a good idea to shampoo your pet with flea shampoo before you treat them with prevention products.
* Treat your pets bedding. You must wash all of your pets bedding material thoroughly. There are powders that can be used on your pets bedding to help control the flea problem.
* Treat your house. This must be done if the flea infestation is bad. There are several different types of treatment. You can use sprays, foggers, or even powders.
* Treat your yard. This is where most people go wrong. They fail to treat the yard outside. They forget this is where the fleas came from. There are many products available to treat your yard. They range from sprays to pellets and powders.

Having a flea infestation is a terribly experience. Take solace that you are not alone. If you live in a close neighborhood you may need to coordinate treatment with your neighbor. The most important thing is the health of your pet. It is best therefore, to treat your pets on a monthly basis. Treating your pet monthly will keep them flea free.
