Fleischmann Trains
Ranked #6,801 in Hobbies, Games & Toys, #82,870 overall
Fleischmann Trains are high-quality German model trains. Fleischmann produces model trains for three types of model railroads: (1) Fleischmann 2-Rail HO scale runs on the Direct Current (DC) 2-rail track most common in U.S. model railroading; (2) Fleischmann 3-rail HO scale runs Alternating Current (AC) track, and therefore also works on Marklin systems; and (3) Fleischmann N scale trains are smaller scale model trains.

Getting Started with Fleischmann Trains
Starter sets are a good way to get started with Fleischmann model trains. Starter sets generally have everything you need to begin running a train: engine, cars, track, power source and controller. As often times a starter set is something of a "loss leader" to get customers into the hobby, starter sets are usually an exceptional value with a price less than the sum of their contents if purchased separately. Also, there are often exceptional prices for starter sets on eBay (just watch the shipping charges), so please do take a look at the eBay selections listed below.

Fleischmann HO Scale -- 2-Rail (DC)
Fleischmann 2-Rail HO Scale
HO scale is the most popular scale for model railroads, and Fleischmann HO trains are reknown for their attention to detail. The majority of the trains that Flesichmann produces in HO scale are for 2-rail Direct Current track (the most common in the U.S.). While these can be converted to 3-rail Alternating Current operation, Flieschmann does produce some items specifically for AC operation, as discussed more below.

Fleischmann HO 3-Rail (AC)
Fleischmann 3-Rail HO
In Europe, many model railroaders use 3-rail HO track, which uses alternating current. While the largest manufacturer of 3-rail HO trains is Marklin, Flieschmann and other companies also manufacture trains that will work on this system. With Fleischmann 3-rail HO, you can expect the same high quality, highly-detailed models as they produce in their Fleischmann 2-rail HO line.

Fleischmann N Scale
Fleischmann N Scale Trains
N scale is the 2nd most popular scale for model trains in the United States. While there is some variation among manufacturers, Fleischmann N scale trains are about 1/160th the size of the real-life prototypes that they are modeled after. With German-made Fleischmann N scale, smaller size does not mean lower quality. As you can see from the photo above, Fleischmann N scale model trains still have a high level of detail.

- You have me wanting a train, in fact I must have my son's packed away somewhere. Oddly, I don't even know what type it is.

- My grandad in Germany had several Fleischman train sets, and he used all of grandma's dining room to drive them in. When he was in a good mood, I was allowed to sit there with him and watch the trains. It was magical.
