Flexitarian Diet To Help Prevent Cancer
Even though it seems that most people in todays society do not seem to eat a healthy diet, there are many individuals that are looking for ways to eat better. A plant based diet is a better diet than a meat based diet especially when it comes to health and preventing diseases like cancer. A vegetarian diet is a difficult diet for most people to stick to. One popular way to improve your diet and add more plant based foods is to try a flexitarian diet. A what? A flexitarian diet is an odd word used to describe people who eat meat or fish occasionally.Get a free Spiritual Healing For Cancer E-Course at www.custom-hypnosis.com/cancer
If you choose to follow a flexitarian diet you will try to eat meat only two to three times a week and then stick to meatless dishes or meatlless alternatives the rest of the week. When you limit the amount of meat dishes that you eat in a week, you will add a good amout of plant based foods to your diet. Plant based foods contain phytochemicals that help to neutralize free radicals. It is these free radicals that can cause disease and some forms of cancer.
You will find that changing over to a flexitarian diet will not be as difficult as you think. The demand for vegetarian foods has increased over recent years. This means that food providers are supplying more vegetarian alternatives in the supermarkets. This means that you will find many different types of dishes that you can eat that are healthier and also taste good. In recent years the market for vegetarian type foods has increased dramatically.
In most cases a flexitarian diet tends to be healthier than a normal diet and you will find it easier to reach your recommended daily intake of fruit and veggies. The only difference is flexitarians and vegetarians is that flexitarians like to indulge in that occasional the piece of meat or fish in their diet.
You may wonder why someone would want to start a vegetarian or flexitarian diet. The biggest reason is that these two diets that are based on a plant based diet and these types of diesta are healthier that diets that involve a major portion of the diet being meat. These diets are also lower in fat and cholesterol. You will also find that in most cases you will get more nutritional value including but not limited to Vitamin A and C, potassium and fiber.
If you decide to try one of these two healthy diets, then you may want to gradually change over. You are used to meat being your main portion of the meal and vegetables only being a side item. If you switch straight to a vegetarian dietm you will likely crave meat and you will find it difficult to stick to your diet. This is another great thing about the flexitarian diet. If you are planning to become a vegetarian, then the flexatarian diet may be a great alternative to get you started and weaned off meat. You have the advantage of not only eating a vegetable based diet which is nutritious, but by adding a little meat or poultry to a mainly vegetarian dish you are adding flavour as well as satisfying that desire for meat.
You can start out by eating strictly vegetarian once per week and then as you get used to it, you can add more days per week when you eat strictly as a vegetarian. On these days you should experiment with vegetarian meals and you may even want to get a few vegetarian cookbooks to find recipes that you might like to try. As you find recipes that you like, you can add them to your future meal plance.
You do not even have to plan to ever become a strict vegetarian. If you can stick to the flexitarian diet, your diet will still be primarily plant based and you will receive many of the benefits of a plant based diet. You just need to make sure that you only eat meat a few times a week and try to use smaller portions of meat and then add more vegetables, beans and fruits to you diet. You will find that if you just use a little bit of creativity, you can come up with some great dishes that only call for a small portion of meat.
As you keep testing and trying new things, you will come up with a healthy food plan that is right for you. And you will learn to eat less meat, which is important in reducing your fat intake and lowering your chances of developing diseases such as heart disease and cancer. These steps though small contain big rewards to enjoying a much healthier way of life.

- Great lens. I have been following this diet for a while but always forget the term for it - Flexiarian. So much quicker to say than "Vegetarian-most-of-the-time"!

- Thank you for the comment. I did not know this type of diet had a name for it until I started researching healthy diets a while back. I really try to stick to plant based foods most of the time but occasionally, I just like some meat. I like your term for it. That is really a pretty cool name.
