Flik's Personality, Or Why We Love Flik
At first, Flik is an outcast because the colony thinks he's a walking disaster. The thing is, Flik's inventions usually work. When they backfire, it's not because of some flaw in the design. It's usually because Flik gets preoccupied when he tries out a new contraption and doesn't pay as much attention to his surroundings as he should.
Flik is anything but reserved: He's chatty and loves explaining how his inventions work. It takes a lot to drag Flik down, but when it happens, he goes down hard. Every now and then he gets depressed, and sometimes he needs a friend to encourage him and gently nudge him in the right direction.

A Red Flik?
Originally Flik was going to be a fire ant. Instead of being part of the ant colony, Red was going to be the ringleader of the circus bugs. After the circus bugs get themselves fired, they run into a couple of ant scouts who are looking for warrior bugs to fight for their colony. Red convinces the circus bugs that they should pretend to be warriors: "After we're fat and well-rested, we'll hightail it out of there before the grasshoppers come back."Apparently this Red character wasn't working out, so he became Flik instead.
