Most noticeable is the design. The original Flip Mino looks somewhat cheap and plastic looking but this model looks SO much better and more modern; it actually resembles some of the Apple products. The brushed-metal front piece looks great. It's also a little bit heavier and is much sturdier than the original.

The MinoHD 2nd generation has twice the storage capacity with 8GB (instead of 4GB) and holds 2 hours of video. The 2" LCD screen gives you more viewing space than the original 1.5".

The video quality is slightly improved. The original MinoHD tended to produce a yellowish line in bright light situations but you won't see this problem in the new model. It's best video feature is its low-light picture taking abilities. It takes better low-light video than most full size modes.
