Flip Flops Forever Fashionable
Flip flops are the coolest form of footwear ever invented. I'm a very casual person and love going barefoot. Unfortunately however, I can't go barefoot 100% of the time. Those are the times when flip flops come to the rescue. Wearing flip flops is the next best thing to going barefoot. Your feet are mostly still exposed, so they feel cool, free to breathe and won't stink like when you wear closed toe shoes all day.
Flip flops have actually been around for quite a long time. In third world countries and where the climate is warm (like in Hawaii) they are the staple footwear. Men and women of all ages wear flip flops everyday. In western countries they used to be the footwear of choice for the beach. However, in the last decade or so their popularity has reached far beyond the beach.
Flip flops started to become popular among teenagers and college students, especially girls. However, they later became popular among men as well. Yes, even older men. Today as the weather gets warm you will see flip flops worn everywhere by virtually anyone, young and old.
Just go to the malls, movie theaters, college campuses, and other places where people hang out and relax, and you are guaranteed to see a lot of flip flop wearers. The younger generation have also been known to brave the freezing temperatures by wearing flip flops in winter, even in the snow. Cool! Fortunately, I live in the South where it's warm most of the year so I don't have to store my flip flops in the winter. I wear them all year long.
I have to admit, there's something about wearing flip flops that can be quite annoying, although it can actually lead to a fun situation; well, to me at least :) Curious? You can read more about that further down the page.

Why flip flops are so popular
So what makes flip flops so popular and fashionable? I believe the number one reason is they're so comfortable. The design is so simple, making it really easy to slip them on and off, and no hassle with tying shoe laces. Flip flops are also very cheap for the most part. You can get a pair at your local grocery or drug store for around $5. Of course, there are more expensive designer flip flops that can cost over $100. Women can actually get away wearing these dressy flip flops to formal occasion.
I believe flip flops are here to stay. "Crocs" were also gaining popularity for a while but they're actually shoes, so they compete with other types of casual shoes, not flip flops! And hey, Crocs actually also makes flip flops. Go figure!

A winter update
Although I live in the southern US where it's warm most of the time, the cold front reaches down here too every once in a while. When the temperature gets below 55 it's too cold for me to go out barefoot so fip flops come to my rescue :)
But you know what? Even with flip flops sometimes people would ask me if my feet weren't cold, and would tell me that I should be wearing shoes and socks or I would get sick. Argh! I wish they would just leave me alone. I've been doing it for years and haven't gotten sick from it.
My feet just hate being cooped up in shoes even in winter. And I wouldn't be caught dead wearing flip flops with socks! On rare occasion the temperature would go down to the 30's and I'd still wear flip flops when I go out. Most of the time I'd be the only one, but once in a while I'd see a sole mate or two braving out the cold weather wearing flip flops.
You guys and gals in the southern hemisphere better start getting those flip flops out!

Some people, mostly young guys and girls, wear flip flops in winter or cold weather for whatever reason. Some want to make a statement while others (like me) simply don't like wearing shoes.

Its so much more comfortable than shoes and socks - I wear them with jeans in the winter and then shorts in the summer. Is this what you other guys do or do you have shorts all year too?

I love wearing flip-flops but I don't wear them in cold weather. In New York City flip-flop/sandal season is from Mid April to Mid to Late October. Under 50 degrees is just too cold for me to show my sexy feet. However I did wear my flip-flops for a couple of days this week Nov 7-10 because it was warm enough. My winter footware manily is sneakers. Uggs/boots are too restricting for me.

I recently bought a pair of white flip flops. As you know, there aren't very many white flip flops around, especially worn by guys. I think they're cool and kind of stand out. I bought these flip flops on our recent trip to Las Vegas. My wife was shopping at David & Goliath and at first I decided to wait outside since I thought most of the stuff was for girls.
Then she called me in to show me these cool looking flip flops with tropical design and told me I would look cool in them. Being a flip flop lover I just couldn't resist.
Tommy Hilfiger Flip Flops
My wife got these stylish flip flops for me on one of her trips that I didn't come along. Knowing that I love flip flops she decided to buy me a pair as a souvenir. She also got a matching pair for herself.
Skull Urban Outfitters Flip Flops
I bought this pair of cool flip flops at Urban Outfitters, a clothing and accessories store for young people. I really like the print design of skulls and other patterns. These babies are one of my favorite flip flops. They're really light and comfortable.
Abercrombie & Fitch Flip Flops
These are my most expensive pair of flip flops. I love the cool A&F logos on the straps and heel surfaces.
I regard them as my "formal" flip flops. I wear them to places that require you to be sort of dressy. I just refuse to wear shoes, and these flip flops haven't failed me :)
Wal Mart Flip Flops
Ah yes, these are the white flip flops I told you about above. I purchased these cheap flip flops at Wal Mart for about $2. I thought in case I decided not to wear them, it wouldn't be a total waste of money. As you can see, they're not entirely white.
I think these flip flops are more appropriate for the beach but I've worn them in the city, especially when I feel like making a statement that I'm cool and not afraid to be different :)
Havaianas Flip Flops
I recently bought a new pair of Havaianas flip flops on eBay. You can tell how much I love flip flops, right? :) They're off-white with dark brown straps and sides. I love them, they're really comfortable.
Bali Flip Flops
Someone went to Bali last year and bought me these funky yellow and black flip flops with "I heart Bali" on the straps. Only free spirited folks will wear these :)
MMA Lite Flip Flops
These are my newest pair of flip flops which I also bought at Wal Mart. It's really cool with a skull on the left side. These are to replace the Urban Outfitters flip flops above which are totally worn out.

The downside of wearing flip flops?
One time it happened and actually broke the strap of one of my flip flops! Obviously I couldn't continue walking wearing those flip flops. So what did I do?
The only logical thing to do: took them off and carried the flip flops in my hand and walked barefoot the rest of the day! When someone asked why I was barefoot I just showed them the broken flip flops and they left me alone. How cool is that?
But now for safety reasons, when I'm walking in a really crowded place I usually just take off my flip flops.

- I wore them a lot when I was a kid (we called them thongs back then), and I've been wearing them again more lately. Not sure how many I own. They're so comfy and easy to get on and off. Really nice lens. Thanks!

- I just wore some this morning to the store. I always get sideways glances when I'm in them... You can tell some people don't approve but who cares? 9 times out of 10 I'm rolling out of the pool to go get more pool noodles... :)

- Just counted mine for the purpose of taking this poll and i have 13 pairs, my favourite ones are my red and orange Dolcé and Gabbana pair even though they've almost seen the end of their days i cannot bear to get rid of them. And yes of course my kids think i am bonkers..which is great, i can live with that..bonkers is good lol

- Love this site. I too love flip flops, best shoe ever invented in my opinion. Yes, there are people who dislike seeing others feet in sandals and flip flops, but I believe there are much worse things out there. Flip flop hatees need to get a a life ,once you wear them there is no going back!
