So you want to learn flow cytometry? If you are a student, great, your university probably has a course. If you are a researcher or health industry professional... start digging.

You might want a flow cytometry course if you are using flow in research. You might want a course if you are using flow in medical diagnosis in hematology, oncology, pathology, or many other fields.

In looking for a flow cytometry course I had some recommended to me, but many filled up as soon as they opened, or never opened at all.

There are flow courses aimed at the medical professionals using flow cytometry for characterizing cells populations, and courses aimed more at researchers. You know which one you want.

Here are the ones I found for 2008 and some notes.

2008 courses I thought looked interesting

Tell me more, and I'll list 'em.

Introduction to Flow Cytometry -- Warning, this page does not specify it, but the course is only for students of the University of Bern. Just mentioning it, since I wasted my time emailing them and awaiting a response.

Advanced Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting for Biotechnology --
What: If you're into pharmaceuticals, tissue culture, and characterizing behavior of cell lines, this is the course for you.
Where: The course is in Vienna, Austria. And you can go on to the ISAC meeting the next week in Budapest by train.
When: May 12-15, 2008.
How Much: €950 - €1850

Flow Cytometry: Principles and Methods --
What: By the description, this course should cover the basics, the intermediates, and a lot of advanced applications. This is a course that looks like it's designed with the researcher in mind, more than a clinical user. However, if you are looking at clinical applications of flow for cell cyle analysis, cell activation, apoptosis, immunology, hematology, or biochmeistry, all of that is on the schedule.

Where: The course is run by a company that professionally provides training courses at the facilities of the NIH (National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.)

When: May 12-15, 2008

How Much: $795. Certificate of completion included.

ISAC 2008 Introductory Course
What: And introductory course taught by experts at the 2008 ISAC (International Society for Analytical Cytometry) Congress. It's a Friday/Saturday course.

Where: Budapest, Hungary.

When: Friday, May 16th and Saturday morning, May 17th, just prior to the congress opening

How much: Student $250 Non-Student $350, this price is separate from the Congress registration.

Flow Cytometry Training Course --

What: Basic flow cytometry course, by the description. Applicants with no previous flow experience are given priority.

Where: University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA.

How Much: $425 full course/ $300 lecture only.

Flow Cytometry course (hands-on) --
What: By the description, an intensive hands-on training course covering basics and advanced methods. Included are cell cycle, apoptosis, cell proliferation, GFP and other fluorescent proteins, FRET and receptor quantification. Sounds like a very broad course.

Where: University of York.

When: June 17 - 20, 2008

How Much: £983 £1185

31st ANNUAL COURSE IN FLOW CYTOMETRY --
What: Hands-on laboratories and related lectures. Looks research oriented.

I truly believe that taking a course, like the one you mentioned, is the best way to learn flow cytometry. Good job listing the coursework and making this lens.
