- Wow. What an amazing half hour I just spent here. I remember reading this page several years ago, and you have added a lot since then! Looking forward to seeing the finished pond.
Curious: Could the corn seeds have come from the first liner you got?
For some reason, the videos wouldn't play for me. Just got that whirly thing, going round forever, so I'll return one of these days and try again.
Thanks for sharing so much of you and your beautiful gardens.

- Hey thanks so much for having this on the internet. I am also disabled...have a bad back...I can relate to alot of what you were talking about. While I love gardening...my back doesn't. :( I have been sitting here for an hour at least reading through and looking at your pictures. We are getting alot of flowers to plant so I was searching the net for some landscaping ideas. Really enjoy yours! I get a little weary of these sites where it would takes thousands of dollars to fix up your yard. Like you I am on a fixed income. For me its the front yard that really needs some work. Seems like there are areas I just can't grow grass! So plan on planting flowers and see how that goes. Thanks for all the wonderful inexpensive ideas!

Funny enough, I planted those with other purposes in mind. It's great to add another reason to my list of why to have them.

I can spend an hour on a square metre and still not be happy. I think container gardening may be more my style. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful garden and photos with us.

- Wow, I felt like I was in the backyard there too. Fabulous photos and detail (now if only I could garden). I completely agree with you that gardening enhances the lives of seniors, disabled and the mentally ill. I think it was Bertrand Russell who noted (his book about Happiness) that we all need to be connected to nature in some way (be it a walk or feeding ducks or gardening). I don't feel the same if I don't get outdoors everyday (even in the worst of our Canadian winters).

Have a lot to learn about how to build a lens as a see a variety out there. Good work, I'll come back and visit more when I have time.

I'm sure that others have appreciated the information which allow us to avoid certain mistakes that we would have made otherwise. Thank you for sharing with us.

- I get great pictures with my cellphone and post them regularly as they bloom. I have 108 different kinds which include plants, shrubs, and trees. My garden has been evolving for almost 10 years now. I love it and so does my cat Winky- Suki, my other cat, doesn't come out in the garden. Winky finds lots of activity out here but Suki watches from the windows. My goal is to help the environment- we feed the birds, bees, butterflies, benefical insects, a chipmuck and a hawk. The hawk takes care of the mice but occasionally he'll swoop down on a bird. The cycle of life goes on in my garden. We follow gardeners are blessed!

You've given me the strength I need for the Dr. visit, in which he'll insist on an MRI (he already phoned me), and then try to insist on 2 different back surgeries. Unless I'm in danger of completely severing a nerve or artery from my back, there's no way I'm agreeing on surgery!

I was particularly pleased today to upload the new picture of my pond with water in it :) I had a young couple visit today, and I took them out to the back yard, and they were both shocked. The guy had been back there before, but not since the pond was added. They thought this old disabled lady had a 'killer backyard'. LOL.

I have 1-1/4 acres that is hilly & sometimes treacherous, but stuff grows here like wildfire. I am very interested in the 3 crosses garden decor piece. Wish I had one for here. I'm also Midwest here in Indiana. God's richest blessings & strength for each day.

- Hello, I was particularly interested in the 3 crosses in your garden. I live in Las Cruces, New Mexico, which means the crosses in Spanish. I am also a born again believer in Jesus Christ who understands the need to go back to the Bible daily to read it for myself. Check out this website with a picture of the 3 crosses that are in the city:
http://mikegrovesphotography.com/lc-1.htm (This is not my photo.) They are lit up at night. I am originally from Iowa and have had to learn how to do gardening all over again because it is so hot and dry here and I have to water so often. The nice thing about the climate here is that is rarely freezes hard so you can have flowers and plants from late February or early March even into until November or sometimes December! I live in an apartment and am learning to do gardening in pots.

- I cant believe that this is the first time I have ever visited this wonderful lens. You are so right to be so proud of your fabulous garden.
I too have built our garden from nothing - but I did have help from my hubby for the heavy work and my son helped lay the foundations for the patio, which I then laid.
I would just love a pond like yours and will look forward to seeing how it develops. Our big project for this year is moving the two sheds that occupy the sunniest spot in the garden outside our back door, to the end of the garden which is always in shade. Then we will build a sun terrace. I guess I ought to take photos and make a lens :)

Like just about everything, when we get older, or are dealing with health problems, we have to learn how to adjust our lifestyle to somehow still include the things we love. Sometimes I sit and rest for 3x the amount of 'work' I've done, but it's all worth it. All those little victories add up to something you can be proud of and have satisfaction in! :)

- Your lens is truly an amazing piece of work, not that you need me to tell you that. It is in fact almost as incredible as your beautiful garden! I myself am a passionate gardener trying to make lenses to share what I have learned in my garden. Though I spend much of what spare time I can find (I have two young boys and a baby due any day now) I hope one day to accomplish what you have with your love of gardening. I just wanted to send you kudos on your successes and your perseverance for what motivates you, you truly are an inspiration!

- I received an email notifying me I had a comment to approve for this page. I DID approve it, but it looks like Squidoo must be having a few bugs, as the comment didn't transfer. I'm so sorry, but the email doesn't tell me 'Who' the commenter was, and as soon as I approve comments, they disappear from my list. Anyway, I found this very touching, and it took me a bit, but I found what you want........it's just above this guestbook.
Original message:
Some time ago I saw on your website a list of flowers with their given names matched to their Biblical name. (At least I think it was yours.) I'm a writer and one of my characters was going to be a gardner who talked of her Biblically named flowers. These are the 3 I remember: Black Eyed Susan is Golden Jerusalem. Honeysuckle is Our Ladyâ?Ts Fingers. Purple Iris is Swords of Sorrow. I'd appreciate a list of others if you have any. Thanks in advance.

- Yes HE did helen! Please don't be envious, it took me a lot of years to get my present backyard flower garden. Your love for it will grow each year, as you add to it. I was, (and you can be too) very proud and satisfied with my very first flower plot that was only 5 feet x 3 feet.

- I'm impressed that you were able to take your California gardening know-how and transplant it to Iowa. I grew up in Minnesota, where most flowering plants need to be treated as annuals, and went to school in Iowa, where people seemed to have better luck with their flower gardens ... when I moved to CA I was shocked and the number of roses people could grow. Your garden looks like a beautiful place to spend time. Congratulations!

- I do love the outlook on life and the way people are friendly here in the Midwest, but I sure do wish our climate was better. I guess I should look at it as being fortunate to experience the ultimate of growing climates in CA. I was born in Iowa, and only left it for 11 years.

I've amazed myself so many times by topping the dirty meter that it's not a fun contest anymore - just a fact of life! I think I could make a whole shop of manicurists run for cover screaming in horror if I ever walked into their shop....he-he-he!

- This lens is an absolute masterpiece! It will certainly inspire me as I spend 2009 rebuilding my broken little garden plot here in East AL. After losing many of my precious plants to two years of severe drought and water restrictions,a late winter thunderstorm sent the tops of two old pine trees plunging like giant spears into my flower bed! Two feet deep! Gone were bulbs, wildflowers, and heirloom hostas from my great grandmother's garden. Health problems slowed my progress this year but I'm on the mend. I guess 2009 will be a garden and character rebuilding year for me. I know only other gardeners can truly understand that. I'm so glad to have found kindred spirits like you on Squidoo. Sorry about the rambling comments. God Bless You Flowergardener.

- Greetings
We share some common interests in earth medicine and spirituality! Your site is inspirational and very impressive, and has gives me ideas of how to create my own.
I'm ridiculously new to Squidoo and hope I don't commit any faux pas in my progress! I barely know where to begin or what to do.
I'm a Native American Practitioner, among other things, and co founder of Happy Tails Rescue and formulator of our 100% WildCrafted Farmacy, with ZERO harsh or toxic ingredients. My purpose is to share holistic health information & generate income to support our Non Profit rescue.
This year was also my first major "FOOD PRODUCTION" garden efforts, with an Herbal Medicine Wheel garden in the center. I'm stunned with the bountiful results, all without artificial chemicals, but a lot of help from our chickens, horses, llamas etc!
I'm sure there is much to learn from your site and I'll visit often!
Blessings!
Toni

- Hi Hydrophony,
I dont' know what you mean by a hydrophonics flower J. I use a hps light, which many hydro gardeners use, inside during the winter for vegetable plants. I don't use a hydro system outside in my flowergarden. Haven't really stepped into hydro too far, but am planning on setting up a system, once my 'green room' (indoor greenhouse) is completed. Should be much easier than pots of dirt!

- Ohhh my goodness! I LOVE this lens! Flowers... are they not the dearest treasures? I live on the Big Island of Hawaii, called 'The Orchid Isle". Small purple orchids grow wild here. Across the street from the Post Office I go to, cause they don't deliver my mail, (waa) there is a house that has a table of orchids with a little envelope thumbtacked to their house to slip in $2. to pay for orchid you would like. Soo cute! Some people, like me, tie them to their trees and stuff with netting or nylon stockings. I have one tree that must hold 30.. I simply cannot resist!

- Hello. Thanks for your comments on my group site. Glad you liked the new format. I think it'll make it a lot easier to "wade through" all of the lenses. You have some really great lenses! I have to give you props for having one on dog constipation and diarrhea (only a mother). :)

- Neat lens! I have one in the works on "cottage gardens." There's something so fun about using 21st century communication media to talk about what's probably the *real* oldest profession.

- Your images are lovely. Clever landscaping--giving the dogs really big runs around the yard. They'd have made a rock-hard path soon enough if you hadn't fenced it in, anyway. Using grasses and raised beds to shield the runs makes good sense and pretty eye-candy too. I rolled you on lensroll.com.

- Had trouble finding your page again but now it is bookmarked. Which URL? you have a complex site.I know zip about plants so I couldn't contribute much. Tried Victorian language of flowers for ideas. heather for praise Bellflower for Thanksgiving, grass for confession. No idea if they will grow tog.

- Hi Sally! I'm so glad you found me here! No, I haven't heard of a flower garden plan to represent a prayer, but if you want, I can research a list of star shaped flowers for you. Maybe we can put our creative minds together and work out a garden plan? I could list them on the Ia. website for you.

- I found your Iowa Christian fl. page. Enjoyed it so much I had to tell you. It's great! Been looking for a flower garden that represents a specific prayer ex., "Our father who art in heaven" represented by "star" shaped flowers etc.-looking at them prompts prayer. Ever seen that? I'd buy plans.
