Grandma's Flower Garden
Since youtube has deleted my videos due to they were Elvis songs, I will have to redo this lense and the videos. So check back as this is definitely a work in progress now. (June 6, 2010) This lense is dedicated to two Grandma's who love flowers. One of them (78) belongs to the Master Gardeners of Angelina County Co-Op, here in Lufkin, Texas, and the other, my mom (72), is just an ordinary "play in the yard" type. The lady who belonged to the Co-Op was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and now spends her time in bed. She's unable to get outdoors and pitter around in her yard like before. Her once beautiful yard is now grown up. A lot of the exotic flowers she had growing have been overtaken by weeds or have died from lack of care, but this spring a lot of flowers poked their buds up anyway.
I walked through my mom's yard and into the her yard next door, to get these pictures. A lot of them I do not know the name of, but a few I do.
Mainly the whole point of doing this lense is to remind myself and others to make sure and take the time to stop and smell the roses. Some of the photos are shot from my eye view and then zoomed in for a close-up. It's amazing at the beauty that lies right under your feet if you stop for a moment and look closer at what you happen to be stepping on.
The borders and any pictures you see on here are ones I've taken in their yards. Enjoy your tour of Grandma's Flower Garden!

Cotton Candy Dandelions
My name for them!
These come up volunteer along the road here that we live on. They've taken over our "corner" of the property between the road and yard.
Cotton Candy Dandelions
The leaves of this flower
The little cotton candy dandelion plants are a lot of fun to play with. If you touch the little green leaves of the plant, they close up on themselves. Reminds me of a venus flytrap!

And of course I had to touch it over and over to get the full effect on the leaves! My mom was telling me that when she was 5 years old she discovered these.
And would stay out in the yard for hours making the little leaves open and close! Those were the days when kids actually didn't get bored because they had imaginations!
But then again,I'd probably still be out there if my daughter could have waited to go to the store later! It's a lot of fun to make them close up!

- I LOVE this! (gonna lensroll it on mine for you) The story about the neighbor lady was so touching.....I wish she had a family member that could re-work her flowergarden so she could look at it :(
I myself lost about 60 german bearded iris from weeds that I didn't clear out last year, and found that it doesn't take long for years of work to be un-done. Thank you for re-visiting my flowergarden, and as to your question? Not yet! The magnolia seeds I forgot to plant (still have them tho!), but I did take more new 'shoot' cuttings from the tree this year, and planted them, instead of trying to root them. They're not completely dead yet, so MAYBE they'll take root :)
