Flowers Make the Heart Smile!

From winter to summer to fall and beyond we have the pleasure of brilliant color and fantastic fragrance. Flowers come in every variety for every season. Flowers are indoors and outdoors.

Our mood is influenced by the sight or smell of a flower from previous memories of that same smell or color. We can decorate our gardens/yards with a variety of plants to create a visual background for extending our homes. We can lift the spirit of someone who is having a rough time, ill, or at a crossroads in their life.

Flowers come in all varieties and sizes. You can find a nature flower in nearly any natural color - not those neon hot colors. Let me show you the variance in flowers for your pleasure.

Just what makes something a flower?

A definition from Wikipedia:

"A flower, also known as a bloom or blossom, is the reproductive structure found in flowering plants (plants of the division Magnoliophyta, also called angiosperms). The biological function of a flower is to mediate the union of male sperm with female ovum in order to produce seeds. The process begins with pollination, is followed by fertilization, leading to the formation and dispersal of the seeds. For the higher plants, seeds are the next generation, and serve as the primary means by which individuals of a species are dispersed across the landscape. The grouping of flowers on a plant are called the inflorescence.

In addition to serving as the reproductive organs of flowering plants, flowers have long been admired and used by humans, mainly to beautify their environment but also as a source of food."

There are many places to learn for about various flowers.

You might learn how to grow them, where they grow, or what their season is.

There are so many sources for information and so many areas to be interested in. From growing flowers to arranging them for a special occasion or making corsages we each have our own interests. An artist might just want to paint, a gardener wants to till the soil to keep them healthy, and a child wants to roll in the bed. Just a few sources are here for you.
Burpee Seeds
One of my favorite ways to learn about various flowers and other plants is to read the discriptions in the seed catelogs. I can't wait for the new ones to arrive in early January.
Flowers.vg
This great site offers free pictures of flowers for background or wallpaper on your monitor. Brighten your day and stop in to enjoy the view.
Gardening With Perennials
Get all the information you need for what perennials you can grow in your location, how to place them for continued color and variety, and suggestions on care.
Cooperative Extension Service
I'm really a farm girl growing up and still at heart. The best resource we had for growing anything was the Extension Office, sometimes called the 4-H Office. They will help you with the scientific information you might need, pest control, growing seasons, and care. Every state has an Extension Office and the services are free for all. Locate the office in community or learn more on the web.
