This is not just a lens about Pink Floyd - this is a lens where you can experience Pink Floyd - from the early days of the UFO club in London to the final reunion at Live 8 and beyond through the eyes of a lifelong fan - My first live gig - June 1970 - Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music.

This is my tribute to the Greatest Rock Band ever. I discovered them first in late 1969 and became a lifelong fan. Recently I discovered a huge repository of Video footage of the band on YouTube and am now scouring its archives to bring together my favourite collection.

There are lots of other Squidoo lenses each with its own focus - you will find them all here - and links to the best sites I can find.

I am creating this lens as a great place to start explore, experience and discover this magnificent band - and a few surprises even for ardent fans - I hope you like it.

Pink Floyd - an Incomparable Band

A life time of influence

If you have never been to a live Pink Floyd gig it may be difficult to understand what all the fuss is about this band. Quite literally they have set the stand for live shows - nothing I have ever attended can even be compared with the sheer spectacal and enormity of a Pink Floyd gig.

This is my tribute to a phenomenal band and a major influence on my life. I have been a fan since 1969 when I bought a Saucerful of Secrets and have every album released by the band or any of its individual members - plus a few extras I have acquired along the way, movie soundtracks, sampler LPs and bootleg versions of gigs and radio performances never otherwise released.

In all that's 50 CD's and most of the early stuff also on vinal - plus Videos and DVDs of their live performances. But this is more than a discography. I have recently discovered the huge huge wealth of Pink Floyd video clips on YouTube and am working my way though them picking the best or the rarest clips to feature here.

There are other fans who have squidoo lenses and sites and I am not going to try to replicate the great work they are doing - I will link to the best so that you can explore their work yourself.

This is a place to explore Pink Floyd if you do not really know them, especially early pink floyd from the late sixties and early seventies. It's place to extend your knowlesdge of Pink Floyd if you know and love them - I keep finding something new every day. And if you are a serious fan it's a place to meet another fan and perhaps share a few thoughts.

The Pink Floyd Story - Musical Documentaries

Great early stuff - and the most recent

The Last Show

Pink Floyd Live at Live-8

This was the great reunion gig for Live 8 - Unfortunately this video seems to have a small problem with sound sync - but I cannot find another version of the entire show - I may eventually replace it with a number of individual bits. It's still great to see.

Really a compilation album of some of the best from the early years but as it included a number of trasks not previously released on an album it was treated by many fans as another album at the time and was certainly one of my favourites.

Early Pink Floyd

Some very rare video clips I found on YouTube

This is a great sample of early Pink Floyd video, from 1967 to 1972 - Most of the tracks are from Pipers at the Gates of Dawn and Saucer Full of Secrets - and many feature the now late great Syd barrett. The Atom Heart Mother track - is a live recording - and lacks a great deal from not having an orchestra.

Pink Floyd Web Links

A selection of the best links I have found

This is a growing list of my favourite links to all things Pink Floyd. It does not pretend to be comprehensive, there is so much stuff on the web. This is just a great place to start with the assurance that all the sites here have been explored by a real fan first.
Atom Heart Mother
Atom Heart Mother is my favourite album of all time. If you read the band members comments it might put you off - but if you were ever into LSD - this album reflects that experience. Floyd used an orchestra and choir in this album and were never really able to perform the music live to that standard without which may be why they put it down. It is very differerent from the later better known material following Dark Side of the Moon and I still love to sit back, especially after a nice joint and drift ways to Atom Heart Mother.

Pink Floyd
This band defined the landscape of psychedelia music. Cambridge England's most successful rock combo. Secerts of the 60s acid underground, who went on to define studio production and rock music in the 70s and 80s.
Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd Early Pink Floyd recordings make space travel superfluous so long as we have keyboards here on Earth. Back when enigmatic lyricist and acid-eater extraordinaire Syd Barrett skippered the ship, the Floyd sounded something like Monty Python with instruments -- quirky, trippy and weird.

Nice tribute to my favorite group! Too bad about the Live-8 clip -- I hope that show won't go down in history as the final performance of Dave, Roger, Richard and Nick together!

About Rikki

In 1969 I moved to London after a season as a Butlin's Red Coat  The Hippy revolution was in full swing and I had some catching up to do. The Elvis records were consigned to history ( I still have them ) but they were replaced by music from the new Underground scene.

One of the first records was A Saucer Full of Secrets quickly followed by Ummagumma and then in June 1970 I went to the bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music and saw Pink Floyd Live for the first time - That amazing light show confirmed me as a life long fan.

In some ways this is my tribute to what they have contributed to the quality of my life.
