The Difference Between the Flu and a Cold

Many of the flu and common cold symptoms are the same. However, treatment for the flu and cold may vary so it's important to know that difference. Here you will find information and symptoms for the common cold, the flu, and swine flu.

Common Cold Symptoms

Symptoms of a common cold usually appear about one to three days after exposure to a cold-causing virus.

Signs and symptoms of a common cold may include:

Body aches or a mild headache
Congestion
Cough
Itchy or sore throat
Low-grade fever
Mild fatigue
Runny or stuffy nose
Sneezing
Watery eyes

The difference between a cold and other viral infections is that you generally won't have a high fever. You're also unlikely to experience significant fatigue from a common cold.

Luckily here in Oz we are just going into Summer season so we are saying BYE to the colds for a while, bring on the 40 degrees (sure I will pray for the cold in a month or two) :)

I have a cold as I write this, just recovering from it. The flu and the cold virus have many similar symptoms that make it tough to diagnose what exactly it is. Thanks for the breakdown between the two.
