Best. Fish. Tacos. Ever.
My husband and I affectionately call this place simply: the fish shack.
Yes, it's pretty much a shack. You can go in covered in sand and rocking your flip flops and tshirt. You can sit for an hour with a beer and good food in the sun. Or you can move along and let me have my turn!
I nearly moved to Half Moon Bay just to be closer to this restaurant.
P.S. If you're nowhere near Half Moon Bay, but know of a to-die-for fish taco somewhere else, add it to the "Best Fish Tacos Ever" list below. Then share with a friend.

First go walk at Half Moon Bay State Beach. Then come here. Get 2 fish tacos. With the works. Get a Corona. Put on a sweater and sit outside. Enjoy.

The website for the Flying Fish Grill says..."The Flying Fish Grill was established in 1992 in beautiful Half Moon Bay, California. Since then we have been serving the very best-tasting seafood at very reasonable prices. But don't take our word for it, the Reviews section speaks for itself."
You should also check out the plethora (yes a plethora!) of great reviews of this place written by Yelpers.

What's a fish taco?
wait, what? You don't know?
Perhaps I'm spoiled by seaside living. I took it for granted that most people have had fish tacos in their lives. If not, here's the short and simple and most basic rundown of what's in it:--Traditionally, cod. Just a gentle white fish. It's not very fishy. Very flaky and light. You can deep fry the cod or grill it. Most fish tacos go deep fried.
--Cabbage, chopped. Some people use red cabbage. I like green. Fresh and crispy.
--A little bit of "secret sauce" that usually has a light mayonnaise base, some spices and salts.
--Fresh salsa.
--Maybe a tiny bit of white cheese, grated very finely.
--Fresh squeezed lemon to put on top!
--All gently held by a warm (but not crispy) corn tortilla. Some people choose to go with a flour tortilla, but I prefer corn.
That's the standard. Other fish tacos will get the works, with guacamole or just sliced avocados, or some rice or beans in it, or radishes and limes, or other variations. But the above = your regular old heavenly fish taco.

Or make fish tacos at home
I own the below items... the grill, the mortar and pestle, and even the cute little tortilla warmer. When I make fish tacos at home, these are my main tools.
A very reliable little grill
A tortilla warmer that cheers up the table
Everyone needs a mortar and pestle

- The fish tacos at the Spyglass restaurant in Pismo Beach are pretty tasty. They also offer shrimp and lobster tacos as well.

- Ah, this makes me homesick for northern California! I've done many overnight trips to Half Moon Bay and took biology classes in high school just for the tide pool field trips.

- Well, I can honestly say I have never had a fish taco, nor have I ever heard of them, but I will be dogged if you do not make it sound good! I betcha that orange ruffy (spelling?) would be great on one.
