Bringing Concentration Into Line...

People are willing to try to change their eating habits, exercise, stop smoking, stop drinking - anything except the one thing that would make all that - would make any task - easier to accomplish: learn how to focus.

The ultimate irony for me: I'm having to multi-task in order to write this lens on focus! As I grow older, this is more difficult for me.

How Long Can You Focus?

It is said that the average sustained attention span of a healthy adult is 20 minutes. But focused attention generally lasts only a matter of seconds! You can train your focus to last much longer. How long can you do it?

An exercise: Place a clock where you can check the time, then pick something, a picture, a story, a task, to focus on. Be honest with yourself: The instant you are first distracted, note the time. Make a note of it, and do this several times, getting an average of how long you can focus. How long can you usually go?
