Not all anti fogs are created equal

Chances are if you wear eye glasses, safety glasses, goggles or shields such as those found on motorcycle, snowmobile and paintball helmets you have experienced fogging problems.

Until now, finding a product that is actually effective and that totally eliminates this problem has been like looking for the proverbial "needle in a haystack".

While most anti fog products that are currently available claim that their product will eliminate fogging none of them actually work really well. Besides having a lack of effectiveness they can also be very inconvenient and here is why:

*In most cases in order for the anti-fog properties to remain effective you must keep re-applying the product, sometimes several times daily depending on conditions and type of use.
*Most of these products also have a two or three step process to apply and if you have to do this several times daily you are losing a lot of valuable time with whatever activity you are doing
*Although this last one is not an inconvenience it is another drawback to currently available anti fog product and that drawback is%u2026None Of These Are Safe On ALL Types Of Plastics.

Anti Fog and Industrial Safety

Preventing workplace injury with the use of anti fog

Fogging Eyewear

A huge problem that can get in the way of your employees adhering to your eye protection policy is fogged lenses. Certain tasks and/or climates cause fogging or condensation of protective eyewear simply because the eyewear is usually at cooler temperature than the more humid environment. This creates moisture from the breath, body or the air to condense into microscopic round droplets that will stick onto the cooler lenses. These miniscule droplets act like tiny lenses sending light everywhere and causing what is referred to as a white out.

This situation where the fogging is obscuring the employees vision forces him/her to make a choice between working with obscured vision or exposing themselves to the probability of an eye injury. Many will remove their protective eyewear just to wipe off the condensation in order to get a few minutes of work in before the fogging comes back. Others just remove their eyewear completely until the job is done. Either way, your employee is opening himself up to serious and expensive eye injuries.

Is There A Solution?

There are two major approaches to solving problems with fogging eyewear.

Anti-Fog Lenses

These lenses have an anti fog layer applied on the inside by the manufacturer that holds in water preventing those droplets being formed. Some of these anti fog coatings are actually quite good, but they all have a limited life of effectiveness. This is mainly because the pre-applied coating eventually flakes off because of physical stresses. These stresses are caused by the expanding and contracting of the anti fog layer as it absorbs and dispenses moisture. Washing or soaking in water will increase this flaking effect. These coating are also really soft and any hard rubbing, such as the pressure used during cleaning willdramatically decreases the life of the anti-fog coatings effectiveness. Some of todays popular cleaning solutions can also immediately end the life of these lenses. Depending on expense, the constant replacing of these lenses may be cost prohibitive.

Another negative aspect is that fogging can occur on the outside of your employee's lenses. This may happen when they are working in colder environments such as in chillers or freezers then entering into a warmer environment. The anti-fog layer the anti fog that was applied on the inside of the lenses does nothing for that employee.

Also, prescription glasses or prescription safety glasses are rarely available with an anti-fog coating. Therefore an employee who must wear thier presctiption eyewear beneath their anti-fog goggles will still have fogging problems.

Topical Anti-Fogs

There is no short supply of topical anti-fogs products available. It is estimate that there are approxiamatley 120 or more products available with more coming and going all the time. Our product, FogTech® Advanced Anti-Fog, is a topical anti-fog.

Topical anti-fogs are applied by the employee. They work by absorbing the condenstion that occurs on the cooler lenses. They then decrease the surface tension of that water. This means those microdroplets cannot bead up because they have little to no surface tension holding them into a bubble shape. So now you don't have millions of little light scattering lenses. You just have a very thin flat coating of water which, if smooth, is transparent.

As you may have discovered, most of these topical anti-fogs seem to work somewhat effectively only on glass but not on plastic safety lenses. Some are good at cleaning but do not seem to do much at all to prevent fogging and condensation. Many appear to work very well at first. But then the anti-fog effect quicly wears off after a few minutes leaving your employee unprotected until the end of a shift.

Fotech Advanced Anti Fog goes on fast with a one step application process and remains totally effective for up to 7 days on a single application! Not all anti fogs are created equal and only one stands above the rest. Fogtech! Visit our website for more information Fogtech.ca

FOGTECH Anti Fog Frequently Asked Questions

Frequent question we receive about Fogtech

Question:

Do I keep wiping on FOGTECH® with my
cloth until it dries?

Answer: No, just wipe on the
inside of the shield or goggles until the inside of the lens is wet with a thin
film. Then let them dry in the air for about 5 or 10 seconds. If you keep wiping
as it dries, you may get some smearing. The only way to fix that smearing is to
reapply.

Question: Do I have to
clean my lens before every application of FOGTECH®?

Answer: Not really. Just make sure
that your lens is not dusty or has too much crud on it before applying. For
safety reasons, clean your lenses often.

Question:
Can I apply a new coating of
FOGTECH® right over an old coat?

Answer: Sure. It really won't work
any better, but if you are pressed for time, go right ahead. Be sure the old
coating is fairly clean. Then apply FOGTECH®
as usual. It will dissolve the old FOGTECH®
coating and renew it. Every once in a while, clean off the old coat and reapply.

Question:
How long will FOGTECH®
last? Does it ever wear out?

Answer: The average user probably
gets 3 to 5 days of use. But, FOGTECH®
will keep working as long as you leave it on. It does not 'wear out'. We have
one user who commutes 15 days in heavy Seattle rain with just one application.
Another customer told us he applied the product six months ago and was able to
play paintball with the same mask without fogging.

Question:
Is FOGTECH® guaranteed to
work?

Answer: Absolutely. We want you to
be totally pleased with our product. If you are not completely satisfied, just
return any unused portion before 30 days from purchase and we will refund your
money within 3 business days. Please tell us why you are returning it.

Question:
What are some of the more unique uses for FOGTECH®?

Answer: FOGTECH®
has been used by Santa Claus to defog his glasses. It seems his lenses were
fogging so badly with the heavy suit and beard that he could not tell boys from
girls. Parking meters have huge fogging problems during cool or humid weather
which means that the parker and the enforcement officers can't read the LCD
displays. FOGTECH® has kept
those plastic parking meter domes clear for up to 4 months at a cost of less
than a penny per day. An exotic mushroom grower tried everything to clear up the
dome display so he could see his prize fungus grow in near 100% humidity.
FOGTECH® is now doing the
trick.

Question:
Is FOGTECH® good for extremely low
temperature fogging?

Answer: We have tested
FOGTECH®
in a freezer
down to-20 degrees F. in a blast freezer. It worked quite well at preventing
fogging on both sides of our lenses. We have gotten reports from mushers and
several safety managers in Alaska that FOGTECH®
performs quite well down to about -34 F. That makes FOGTECH®
ideal for extreme environments. One user told us that the water that was
captured started to freeze below -30 F after about 5 minutes. Look here for more
reports as our users test. The product itself will not freeze until -123 degrees
F.

Question:
Should I apply FOGTECH® to the
outside of my shield or goggles?

Answer: The answer is maybe.
FOGTECH® will not cause
water to bead up like RainX or Aquapel does on glass. Nor will it prevent the
'fogging' you get on the front side of your lenses when you are riding through
foggy or misty conditions. On paintball masks, some customers are reported that
FOGTECH® gets rid of that
haziness on the outside of their lenses caused by microscratches. They also
reporded that the paint will bead up when they get gogged. We are testing those
capabilities right now. So usually you just coat the inside of your lenses. An
exception is if you wear glasses under a helmet, shield or goggles. You most
likely will have to cover both sides of the glasses as they will fog on both
sides in those conditions.

Question:
Is FOGTECH® good for fogging while
SCUBA diving or snorkeling masks, or on swimming goggles?

Answer: FOGTECH®
is not recommended for these sports. It washes off quite readily with water. We
recommend you try anti-fogs specifically formulated for adherence in water.

Question: How can I buy
FOGTECH
®?

Answer: Click on the
Buy Now link. There
you can buy directly from Fogtech.ca FOGTECH®
comes in bottles and packets. The 30 ml bottle costs $16 and provides 30 to 40
uses. The packets cost $5 for 5 packets. They are single use, but you should be
able to coat 2 to 4 goggles or shields at the same time.

Question: Hey I just got
my bottle of FOGTECH® and it only appears to
be half full? What's up?

Answer: Actually the normal bottle
of FogTech is only about 3/5 full or slightly more than 1/2 way. The reason is
simple. There are no 30 ml oval bottles on the market that accept the dropper
tip. So I am forced to buy 40 ml bottles. With the normal gap between the
product and the neck it looks only 1/2 filled.

Question: What do you
charge for shipping? Do you ship worldwide? Isn't that expensive?

Answer: Basic First Class shipping
in the U.S. only costs $4 and you will get it in 4 to 5 days. Air Mail outside
of the U.S. is only $6 and usually takes just 5 to 8 days. By the way, these
charges apply no matter how many bottles or packets you order. And there are
expedited methods available too. So if you have an urgent need, we can get it to
you very quickly. We don't charge high 'shipping and handling' fees. We want to
get FOGTECH® into your
hands as cost effectively and as quickly as possible.

Question: Why does FOGTECH®
cost so much? I can buy other antifogs for $5 or $10.

Answer: FOGTECH®
is really not very expensive to use for two reasons. It works extremely well and
a little goes a long way. The 30 ml. bottle will provide 40 or more
applications. The packets will coat up to three or more sets of lenses at the
same time. And each applicat

I've tried a couple times to use it but keep getting red and blue spots and streaks all over the lens of my eye glasses -- they are the feather light poly-carbonate kind of lenses. I've tried adding more and wiping in different directionsbut it just crates more spots.

Hey thanks for the great product! I wear glasses which I also need to wear under my goggles. I tried all kinds of anti fogs and this is the only one that worked.
