Characteristics of a Folding e-Bicycle
Easy Storage - Some bikes are small enough to stow in a cubicle or the office storage. No time wasted looking for parking. Less chances it will get stolen in the parking lot.
Augments Human Capability - There are benefits to exercise. There are disadvantages to exercise. If you travel through rolling terrain, you may need a motor powered boost. When travelling through polluted areas I try not to breath too heavily. And when travelling to marketing presentations it's best not to look like you stepped out of a gym. Unless that's what you're selling.
Low Polluting - Seems like we have enough pollution already and its time to cut back.
Convenient Refueling - Plug it into a socket at the office or garage. At worst you can pedal to your destination.
Purpose of a Folding e-bike
and what's that "last mile"
The "last mile" is a telecom term referring to the final distance in delivering connectivity to the customer. For commuters, it means the short distance one travels from a transport hub to a destination. To me a folding electric bike is ideal for traversing that gap. They are just right for the urban worker.
Patrons of folding e-bikes aren't looking for the ultimate riding machine. They want a transport solution.

It's an electric mountain bike. It's tough and portable. It has mountain bike suspensions on the front and rear wheels. You can travel 20-25 miles before needing a recharge or you can pedal the rest of the way. It sports disc brakes. The motor is a 300 watts rear mount. Speed is 20 mph. Its 72 inches in length and folds to about half. The batteries can last about 7 years.
This is something I'd imagine taking if I traversed some relatively rough terrain. If you lived outside the city or in a rural area this might be very handy. Or if you live in a city constantly under construction and besieged by floods and potholes.
