A Collapsible Kayak - The Foldlite

Folding kayaks perform much the same as hardshell kayaks. Some people even prefer the stability and design of folding kayaks over hardshells. A kayak that can be collapsed is easier to handle than a hardshell kayak. They take up much less space than a hard shell kayak and can be tucked away conveniently out of sight. When the kayak is disassembled they can fit into carrying bags that can be checked as your regular luggage.

There's no need to ask for help loading up as these easy kayaks are lightweight and can be handled by one person. Assembling the kayak is quick and easy and when you are finished, taking it apart is just as simple as putting it together, there's no inflating or complicated tools involved. They are the smallest kayak ever! Before you know it, you'll be off paddling into the sunset.

The Foldlite Kayak

Great Fishing Kayak

The Foldlite kayak is one of the most inexpensive folding kayaks available. It's a great starter kayak for those just venturing into folding kayaks and wanting to try them out. This was the first kayak I'd ever bought, so I wasn't looking to make a big investment because I wasn't sure I'd take to the sport. I didn't want to be stuck with an expensive kayak that I wasn't going to use if it turned out I hated kayaking.

This is an easy kayak to handle because I can manage it myself and I don't have to ask for help hoisting it up on the roof of the van, which I would have to do with a conventional kayak. It folds up so small I just put it in the back of our van. I can put it together and be in the water in less than ten minutes. I'm a person who likes to be able to manage things herself, so having a kayak that was easy to assemble was a priority.

I'd recommend this kayak for anyone who is looking for an inexpensive kayak to zip around in. It wouldn't stand up to hard core kayaking and long excursions but it is great fun for those who enjoy an early morning paddle around the lake.

How Folding Kayaks Came to Be

An Old Invention Made New Again

Folding kayaks are based on the design of the orginal Aleut and Inuit kayaks. Aluminum tubing and specialized fabrics have replaced the seal skins and driftwood, but the feeling of the new folders is very similar. Unlike hard shell kayaks, folding kayaks are flexible and move with the current of the water. Folding kayak enthusiasts claim their kayaks have greater stability, flexibility, and ease in the water.

I miss kayaking! (Unfortunately, I moved to a place where there's no body of water nearby). Great lens.

Well.....I'm a bit flabbergasted. I'm an avid kayaker and I live on a boat and I've never heard of fold up kayaks before. You, young lady, might just have solved one of my biggest problems so THANK YOU. When I buy a fold up kayak, I will definitely buy it from here I promise you. Great stuff.
