“the best gallery experience I ever had was walking into the Folk Art Center”

The Folk Art Center

Folk Art Center by Doug ColdwellThe Folk Art Center is reputed to be the #1 attraction along the Blue Ridge Parkway as it attracts over 250,000 people a year.

Located at mile post 382 on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville, NC, it's the main headquarters of the Southern Highland Craft Guild.

This is operated in partnership with the National Park Service and open year round, though I would call first in the winter because the parkway often closes during inclement weather.

Jay Pfeil

Magnolia Awakenings IV by Jay PfeilJay Pfeil makes etchings and engravings from her studio in Black Mountain, NC, just 20 minutes east of Asheville. When she makes prints of her work they are very limited runs and individually numbered.

From her website:

My primary medium is etchings and engravings, where I depict the natural beauty of Western North Carolina and other natural areas that have influenced my creative energy.

Through my daily mountain hikes, I strive to etch or draw my work in their natural locations. Due to the time-consuming and complex nature of etching and engraving, larger works are often finalized in my studio. It is my hope that conveying my enthusiasm and reverence for the wild world, that others may enjoy, respect, and conserve the environmental diversity that surrounds us in a sustainable, cooperative and joyful balance
