I thought I would share some Folk Music we are listening to at juBo. A, not quite totally random, collection of English Folk music. Allow yourself to be introduced to some new music - or listen to your favourites online - Enjoy!
Many of the links here lead to 2 or 3 full tracks by the artist. Think of it as an interactive radio show with video.

I was first introduced to Spiers and Boden through hearing them sing "Prickle Eye Bush". I then dragged the family along to see them live (not too difficult since the concert was 5 minutes walk away), and we've all been firm fans ever since.
You probably think that English folk music is all morris tunes and songs with depressing lyrics... well you may be right. However, put that together with the brilliant style and energy of Spiers and Boden, and you might find yourself actually liking morris tunes and depressing songs. Really!

- Worth a mention here. My son is becoming a great fan of Jon's own music, although not actually folk.

- Out of all the CDs by Spiers and Boden I still think this one is my favourite. "Through and Through" is good, "Songs" is more recent, and is my second favourite. I haven't really spent enough time with "Tunes" yet.
Bellow is great - and is still the Spiers and Boden CD that I reach for first.

The man of the house enjoys listening to the northumbrian pipes. He is a Geordie, so I suppose that explains it. I'm not really sure about the pipes myself, although I sometimes find myself listening to a Kathryn Tickell CD. Partly because it's sitting there, and partly because of the good tunes. If you're going to listen to the northumbrian pipes it might as well be good tunes played by good musicians.
Her CD, "Strange but True" found its way into the house this Christmas, and I might even have been converted... don't tell anyone.

Lady of the Sea
I'm not totally convinced about Seth Lakeman myself, but my son likes his music. I do like this song - Lady of the Sea.
I've just realised that this sounds quite negative. It is just that in the UK recently we've heard a lot of Seth and a lot of "Lady of the Sea" which is a brilliant track and video and I do really like it, but I hadn't heard much of his other work.
It has been good recently to hear more of what he can do. The bbc radio 2 show recorded at Celtic Connections made me want to go and find more of his work, and the videos below are a result of that.
