Handcrafted Folk Art from Amish Craftsmen
The Amish Folk are those who, by definition, keep traditions alive. The folk arts that they brought over to the New World, are still living and breathing in the Amish community. There are many of these, from scherenschnitte to the one piece collapsible baskets that have been made and used by the gypsies in Europe for hundreds of years.
Sometimes what we think of as 'folk art' is NOT what the Amish think of that way, and there is a bit of confusion in that respect.
This lens is about bringing you information about Amish folk arts, how you can make them, what they are and where you can get some. Feel free to contact me with any information and questions.
Scherenschnitte
Paper cutouts
Scherenschnitte is another very old folk art form that the Amish brought with them from the Old Country. It is a time consuming papercutting, lacy, with flowers, layers of cut paper and words or quotes. It is placed within an outer frame, and often serves as a frame for a beloved scripture verse or line from a hymnal. The Amish Community Blog
