When All Else Fails - Read the Instructions

How Many Times Have You Stood By Watching Someone Totally Mess Things Up, Simply Because they Wouldn't Read the Owners Manual?
Ever wonder how these people have managed to live this long? There's a sign down at the auto parts store that reads "Rebuild carburetor enough times and you'll have enough parts left over to build another one."
I've seen some things, in my lifetime that just make me walk away, shaking my head. My son-in-law claimed he knew what he was doing, when he tore apart the dashboard on the car, to stop a squeaking speedometer. Ever since, no matter how slow we drive, according to the speedometer, we're doing 80mph. Speeding down the freeway, I'm doing 30mph. Go figure.
The same mastermind, insisted he could take part of my car parts out, to get to a hose, without doing any damage. When I came home later, I discovered a plastic piece, lying on the ground that had come from under the hood. I'm still wondering what it is but the car seems to be running ok. Again, go figure.
I bought a futon and my son-in-law insisted I let him put it together. Did he look at the instructions? Well, sort of. The arms at both ends are backward but it seems to be working ok. Again, go figure.
Now, I'm one of those that will not throw out packaging until I know for sure, the product is ok. What's more, if I have to assemble something, I first read the instructions and then lay out each package of parts and name them. Then I line them up according to 'what comes first', then step by step, I follow the instructions to the 'T'. Funny thing - I never have left over parts, except for the additional bolts they add.
I'm so meticulous with new objects purchased, I drive people around me crazy. "Don't move that, I'll forget what it is."
At the same time, it seems to me the people all around me, have no regard whatsoever for following instructions. They laugh at me but they are the ones with left over parts and things that just don't seem to fit right or work the way they should. Go figure.
Why is it that some people just get it in their minds that something so simple, they should know how to put it together, even when they've never touched such an item in their lives?!
Guess who they bring those thing to, with instructions in hand, to help them figure out why that peddle seems to only want to go backward instead of forward. "Here! You figure it out!" That, after they've so screwed it up, I can't tell head from tail what this thing is.
Have you ever seen a real pine tree with bigger branches in the middle than in the bottom? Now I ask you......

- By Dina Kraft May.28, 2012 | 2:04 AM BOSTON, Massachusetts - The idea of giving young Diaspora Jews free 10-day visits to Israel was born as a radical and moneyed attempt to stave off assimilation. But more than a decade later, it's also young Israelis ...
