The New York Yankees - Baseball's Greatest Dynasty

"I'd like to thank the good Lord for making me a Yankee." -Joe DiMaggio

The New York Yankees are baseball's greatest team. With 26 World Championships they set the standard for all other teams.

Since the 1920's the New York Yankees have held center stage in baseball and American professional sports. It all began with the trade of Babe Ruth from the Boston Red Sox.

Through the years the Yankees have featured such legendary stars as Lou Gehrig - "The Iron Horse", Joe DiMaggio -"The Yankee Clipper", and Mickey Mantle -"The Mick".

The latest edition of the New York Yankees dynasty was from 1996 to 2000 when the Bronx Bombers won an incredible four World Series in five years. Again they were led by a charismatic and dynamic superstar. This time it was "Captain Clutch", Derek Jeter. Jeter isn't a power hitter in the classic Yankee mold. All he does is beat you.

Follow The New York Yankees as Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, and the rest of the Bombers try to win it all once again.

Mickey Mantle "The Mick"

A Moving Tribute to Mickey Mantle's Courageous Last Days

When asked, the unassuming Mickey Mantle said that he would like to be remembered simply as, "A Great Teammate".

And that he was. The Yankee superstar was loved by his teammates. Gifted with speed and power almost beyond belief, Mickey Mantle was a childhood hero to millions of young American boys.

But his most heroic moments were not on the diamonds of professional baseball. Ravaged by the excesses of a life of high living and strong drink, Mantle faced up to his human shortcomings and issued a stark caution to others.

Now Mantle is among the Ghosts of Yankee Stadium. And he is remembered not only for his singular athletic gifts, but more importantly for his gallant last days.

Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and the 1927 New York Yankees

"Murderers Row"

The 1927 Yankees are generally regarded as the best baseball team to ever take the field.

Eighty years have passed since Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Bob Meusel, and Earle Combs formed the heart of the legendary "Murderers Row". It was an offense that produced 975 runs in 154 games.

Babe Ruth, then 32 years old, slugged 60 home runs and drove in 164. Gehrig hit 47 homers and had 175 runs batted in.

The team won an incredible 110 out of 154 games for a .714 win percentage. It's a wonder that they ever lost!

The '27 Yankees are a team for the ages.

There is no other stadium like Yankee Stadium. It is quite simply "Baseball's Cathedral" The 2008 season will be the Stadium's last. As a tribute Major League Baseball will host the annual All-Star game there in it's last year. The New Yankee Stadium will be built next door and will seek to remain faithful to the current stadium's design.
