What does the game look like?
The graphics of Maple Story are 2D, and side-scrolling. That doesn't mean that they are bad or "flat" in any way, because they aren't. The graphics are rich in bright and cheerful colors, and the background to the screen gives the game almost a 3D feel. Characters aren't flat pieces of paper walking around, but 3D figures looked at from one angle. I personally enjoy the graphics very much and they never disappointed me at all.The game is divided up into different maps, and to go to a different map, you travel through a portal, giving the idea of a whole world in spite of the "flat"-ness. It also helps you keep a sense of direction and allows you to remember your way around much easier.

Sound Overview
What does the game sound like?
Other games have a music loop that the game plays through as you play, and sound effects such as hacking at monsters are the only interruptions. This is true for Maple Story, too, except that Maple Story has different music loops for different areas of the world. For example, if you are in the market of a certain town, the game will play one song loop, and if you are in another town, it will play another one.
The songs are creatively put together and are actually nice and soothing to listen to, as compared to other games.
Overall, I personally think that the music in Maple Story is quite nice.
