How To Use Fondant

You will need:

1. 1 bag of powder sugar.

2. 1 bag of mini marshmallows

3. 1 can of Crisco

4. Microwaveable bowl

5. 1 teaspoon of water

6. Food coloring

Now, Spread lots of crisco on the table or counter and take almost half of the powder sugar and spread it on the counter top. Put all the mini marshmallow on the microwaveable bowl and first start with 30 seconds, take out and mix it together. Put it back in the microwave for another 30 seconds and again mix it.

Bring the melted marshmallow to the table and spread it all over the powder sugar on the counter.

*Now put some nice amount of crisco around your hands and fingers because it's going to get sticky and messy.

With your hands, mix together the marshmallow and the sugar power with the teaspoon of water.

Once you are ready to create your cake, you use a rolling pin and roll the fondant on the counter top. Remember to put sugar on the counter before doing this. I always use buttercream frosting on the cake before putting the fondant. This will help the fondant stick to the cake and it creates a smooth surface.

When you have the size that you desired, with the same rolling pin, place the fondant on top of the cake.

Using fondant to decorate your cakes or cupcakes is easy and fun, but you can also use fondant to create shapes and mold.

Fondant is like play dough, you can mold it to make different things. Flowers, animals, toys, food shapes, etc. The sky is the limit with fondant.

I usually make all my cake decorations with fondant.

*** After molding your creation, put on refridegerator until needed.

One of my favorite things to do is to decorate cookies. Most of the times I use regular icing, gel icing, but fondant is a very unique and creative way to decorate your delicious cookies.

You can make the fondant and divide it in different rolls with different colors. Using cookie cutters of fondant cutters to make to shapes you desire.

Use your imagination when it comes to decorating with fondant. It's so easy to handle fondant that it's fun to use on cookies.

*** The fondant would work better on sugar cookies.

After a make all the fondant I need for a project, I usually divide them in separate rolls and store them separately.

Using any food coloring, I add couple of drops of the color I'm going to use and mix it with my fondant.

Remember that the fondant is now like a play dough, you will need o kneel the color in the fondant until is all the color you want it.

Make sure all the fondant is saturated with the food coloring or you will have patches and the color would not be even.
