Identify Fonts in Bitmap Images

Sometimes you need to recreate a vector image from a bitmap or raster design but you don't know what font was originally used. Maybe you're trying to recreate your logo as a vector, or maybe you're just trying to identify a font used in another design piece so that you can use it again on a new design. This lens has links to the tools you need to identify that mystery font.

Answer Questions About Your Font and this Q&A Font Identifier Spits Out Likely Choices

IdentifontIdentifont is a question and answer program that will help you identify a font by answering questions about what your font looks like. The questions range from, does the uppercase J extend below the baseline, and does the dollar sign have two lines going down or one. The problem is, if you only have a few words in your logo or design it may still be hard to determine which font you are using especially if your raster art only has a few characters. It's certainly worth a try though, especially since it's free!

Let the Experts Help You Match Your Font

Forums Are A Great Palce to Ask for Help from Real People

Typophile is the largest community of font experts online today. Simply post a raster image of the font you're looking for as a new thread in their forum and see what the experts come back with. Most other free font sites also have forums where you can do this, but the communities won't be as big or as useful as Typophile. I recommend trying this forum first.
