The importance of clean

The last 10 years have seen an explosion of science exploring the links between toxic chemicals and human health. Various chronic diseases have increased in incidence during the last two decades. The science tends to reinforce some major themes: 1. health effects are often seen at very low levels of exposure - several orders of magnitude lower than previously thought; 2. human exposure to many industrial chemicals is widespread; and 3. increased incidence of various chronic diseases may be linked to toxic exposures.

The National Environment Trust found that on average, for every pound of neurotoxins, carcinogens, or reproductive or developmental toxins that facilities reported as released to the air, water, or land, they shipped 42 pounds of the same chemicals as or in products that could be used in or around the home.

It isn't difficult to clean food and make it better to eat. On this page we'll show you a product that Time Magazine listed as a Best Invention.

Children are most at risk

In the first update in nearly 20 years, the Environmental Protection Agency stated in its "Guidelines for Carcinogen Risk Assessment" that children 2 years old and younger might be 10 times more vulnerable than adults to certain chemicals, and children between the ages of 2 and 16 might be three times more vulnerable. Some of the reasons provided were: Differences in the capacity to metabolize and clear chemicals, more frequent cell division during development can result in enhanced expression of mutations, some embryonic cells - such as brain cells - lack key DNA repair enzymes and some components of the immune system are not fully functional during development.

The Lotus Sanitizing System

Tersano engineers have developed a way to miniaturize the expensive ozone sanitization technology that progressive hospitals worldwide use to sterilize their surgical instruments. The lotus Sanitizing System offers you a way to clean your home without toxic cleaning chemicals by infusing water in the spray bottle attachment with super-oxygen to deliver an all-natural sanitizer 50% stronger than bleach.

The Lotus Sanitizing system infuses water with ozone, in the all-purpose sanitizing bowl included with the system, to neutralize up to 99.9% of bacteria and pesticides on foods.

You can also use lotus to infuse water in the included spray bottle attachment and sanitize surfaces with one of the lotus microfiber cleaning cloths also included with the system. Among many other things, lotus activated water also removes stains, removes mold and mildew and deodorizes.

A variety of benefits

A natural, chemical-free way to sanitize your home and to neutralize pesticides and bacteria on food.

The Lotus system's Oxyshield technology infuses tap water with ozone - a natural sanitizer that is safe and harmless to healthy cells.

Ozone-activated water is widely accepted as a safe and effective way to decontaminate all kinds of foods - meats, poultry, seafood, fruits and vegetables.

Washing produce in ozonated water significantly reduces pesticide residues on the surface of produce. With the lotus system, expensive "organic" isn't the only way to enjoy food with less pesticides!

Ozonated lotus water quickly kills germs all kinds of surfaces - cutting boards, kitchen counters, stovetops, knives, sinks, toilets, garbage cans or diaper pails.

Excellent for neutralizing pet odors in carpets, dog beds, upholstery or car interiors.

Sanitize everyday items like sponges, dish cloths, small toys, pacifiers, nipples, can openers, kitchen gadgets and utensils - in cool tap water.

Frequently asked questions

What is the lotus® Sanitizing System designed to do?

The system has two main purposes: (1) to disinfect surfaces and (2) to remove pesticides and kill germs on food. It does this using ordinary tap water.

How can it do both?

You wouldn't use an antibacterial cleanser like "409" on food, right? But because this system is chemical free - using only tap water infused with "super-oxygen" ozone molecules - it is safe and effective for both purposes.

How does the system work?

The system works by generating ozone molecules and infusing them into ordinary tap water. Ozone is an unstable molecule of three oxygen atoms (O3) instead of the stable two-atom oxygen molecule (O2) that we breathe. It is the unstable third oxygen atom that is the natural sterilizing agent - oxidizing (i.e., killing) microorganisms by physically destroying them.

This oxidation both kills bacteria and actively destroys chemical pesticide residues on fruits and vegetables; this makes it doubly effective at making produce safe and healthy.

Isn't ozone dangerous?

In lotus, the ozone is only dangerous to germs! Essentially no ozone is released into the air by this process; and the ozonated lotus water itself is harmless to healthy cells. It is okay on your skin, on food; it is chemical free and natural. The only by-product of the process is simple oxygen and plain water.

How long is the lotus water effective at killing germs?

Using the spray bottle, it takes about two to three minutes to turn tap water into antibacterial lotus® water with 100% potential (this is indicated on the unit); and then it remains fully effective for about 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, it begins to revert to plain water. A countdown time on the unit tells you when it's time to reload and recharge.

How long does it take lotus water to remove pesticides?

Once the tap water reaches its 100% potential (in about five minutes, using the bowl), maximum bacterial reduction (up to 99.9%) and pesticide reduction is achieved after two minutes of soaking. A countdown timer on the unit tells you when your food is completely sanitized and cleansed of pesticide residues.

How strong is ozonated water compared to chemical sanitizers?

Chlorine is a very common germ-killing agent and water infused with ozone has been shown to be 50% more effective than chlorine across a wider spectrum of microorganisms; also, ozonated water is virtually instant - about 3,000 times faster acting than chlorine bleach.

The most modern water-treatment plants are changing from chlorine to ozone because of chlorine's carcinogenic chemical by-products. Ozone has no such by-products; just simple oxygen.

Can germs become resistant to lotus water?

No. With antibacterial soaps and chemical cleansers, germs can mutate and become resistant. Ozonated water, however, relies on physical destruction and bacteria cannot mutate to become resistant. It gets them every time!

How does one measure the sanitizing capability of lotus water?

The water- and food-sanitizing industries use a term called Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP), which is a measure of ozonated water's potential to kill germs. The higher the ORP, the more efficient the sanitizing. This system generates an ORP in excess of 800, a level at which all microbial life is destroyed.

The amount of ozone generated is measured in parts per million (ppm). This system generates 1.02 ppm of ozone and infuses it into water.

Is it okay to drink this lotus water?

This system is NOT designed to make sanitized drinking water, and drinking it is not recommended until after it reverts to plain water (after 15 minutes).

For drinking water, the lotus company does makes a different system, called the lotus Water Treatment System. It has an ozone PPM of 0.12 (eight times less than the Sanitizing System) and includes a carbon-block filter to remove impurities.

What are the lotus Cleaning Cloths for?

These specially woven cleaning cloths (70% polyester/30% polyamide) can be used wet or dry to cut grease and clean up all kinds of dirt from surfaces being treated. Used with antibacterial lotus® water, they give you all the cleaning power of a chemical cleanser but without any chemicals at all.
