Foods To Avoid Giving Your Dog Even As A Treat
All dog owners know the begging look that comes from those big brown eyes staring up at you as he or she licks the lips in the hopes that something you have eaten might come their way as well. Probably thinking if you are enjoying, why can't I? You might be eating chocolate or biscuits, or a cream sticky bun. Even though you know it is not a healthy food for you to eat, does it mean your dog can have a taste of it as well? Even if you allow your dog some of your sugary treat is it going to do him or her any harm if you give in to those pleading looks? The fact is there are foods to avoid giving your dog.
These are just the issues this lens is about.

Avoid Giving Your Dog Table Scraps.
Table scraps are bad for your dog's health
Human food is not formulated for the specific needs of your dog and for this reason should not be given indiscriminately to dogs. Dogs need a well balanced diet, which gives them the vitamins and minerals they need to maintain good health.
The problem with feeding them table foods is they acquire a taste for them and so are less willing to eat the dog food you offer them. After all, who wants to go back to eating ordinary dog food after eating the rich tastings foods which we humans eat?
Dogs have more sensitive stomachs than humans and cannot tolerate all foods as we do, which means if you give them something which disagrees with their digestive system, you will likely have to clean up the consequences afterwards.

So What Foods Should I Avoid Giving My Dog?
Do not give your dog these human foods
The following foods are bad new for the health of your dog and should be avoided.
Fruit and vegetables.
Common sense tells us humans that these foods are good for us, but they are not good for our canine friends and, surprisingly, can cause them serious health problems, such as breathing difficulties and can lead to fluid accumulation in the heart, stomach and chest. Even common vegetables, such as onions, wild mushrooms and tomatoes can cause weakness in a dog.
Tea and Coffee can cause unwanted symptoms in dogs, and can cause problems in the central nervous system.
Chocolate.
Dogs like chocolate as much as we humans do and are just as attracted to the sweet, sugary taste. It will cause your dog to put on unwanted weight, and it contains caffeine which is harmful to your dogs's health. In summary, avoid giving chocolate to your dog.
Grapes and Raisins
These are toxic to dogs and should be avoided. Even a handful of raisins could cause kidney failure. If you eat them yourself you probably find they can easily fall to the floor, where of course your dog can find and eat them. If this is the case with you, it is best to pick them up as soon as they fall to the floor.

- Just checking to be sure there weren't any foods on the list I hadn't heard about. Our dog definitely doesn't get chocolate, raisins or grapes, but we've always given her table scrap treats, and, at nearly 12 years old, she's going healthy and strong. We don't OVERdo it, but we do share with her, especially bits of meat, rice and egg.
