The importance of fiber in the diet

Most people don't recognize how important fiber is to a healthful diet. In fact, fiber is believed to be important to the maintenance and achievement of personal health. One of fiber's abilities is to prevent colon cancer and other types of cancer.

The good news for those who want to eat healthy is that there are lots of choices in foods that have plenty of fiber. If you decide to choose fiber as a part of your diet, you'll enjoy many tasty foods while getting the benefit of the fiber you need.

Let's take a look at a few foods with fiber that you can choose as a healthy part of your diet:

* Turnip greens are an excellent dietary source of fiber. They also carry a great deal of health benefits besides their fiber content.


* Almonds are one of the nuts having the most abundant source of diet. They can be sprinkled onto salads or eaten whole.  Brazil nuts are another nut rich in fiber.


*While a number of people don't like Brussels sprouts, they are a dark green vegetable that have an excellent dietary source of fiber.


* Cherries are filled with fiber, both in their pulp and in the skin around them.


* Rye bread and rye crackers contain the rye grain that contains a lot of fiber. You can use that type of bread for nearly every meal.


* The broccoli vegetable can be steamed or eaten raw and is an excellent source of dietary fiber. Try sprinkling some in your salad for extra fiber.


*Green beans and beans of all types are great sources of dietary fiber.

* The greens of the beet are great sources of dietary fiber.

* Kale, a green leafy type of vegetable, also contains plenty of dietary fiber.

* A commonly used food in the south, collard greens are nutritionally healthy and are an excellent source of fiber for your diet.

* Swiss chard is another great fiber source and can be included in many recipes in your diet.

* Raspberries are a great fiber source and they taste great when eaten alone or when mixed with other food like cereal or yoghurt

* Blackberries are wonderful dietary sources of healthy fiber.  They are cheap and you can get them at fruit markets, grocery stores or cooperatives.

* Strawberries also have a great deal of fiber and they taste great, too.  You can put strawberries in salads, on yoghurt or on top of cereal.  They also taste great by themselves.

* Skin-on apples are excellent fiber sources but only if you don't peel the apple first.  

* Spinach is a lot like broccoli. Not only does it have many nutrients, it is an excellent choice for fiber.  Remember, spinach provides a great source of iron as well.

    Chuckling here as I read your article. I know what you mean about fiber. Great lens, very informative! Rated it with 5 stars. I think more people should read your lens as you did a great job putting info together. Just add a few more modules, some more pics and some more vids to make it more attractive.
