Spice up tonights football practice!
A player at the front of one of the lines should be holding a football. When the drill begins, the player at the front of each line jogs forward toward the other line. The person who has a football hands it to the person from the other line that is running at him. Then that person hands the ball to the next person who is running at him. Once the ball is handed off the player should run to the back of the other line.
Separate Football Drills for Offense and Defense
A basic football drill the defensive players can perform is a drill that teaches a player to defend against the pass.
A player will begin standing opposite a coach who is holding a football. The coach will simulate the snap of the football. The coach will then either hold the ball to the left or to the right. The defensive player must back pedal and then turn to whatever side the coach is holding the ball to.
For example, if the coach is holding the ball on his right side then the player should be back or side pedaling toward the coach's right side or the players left (since the player is facing the coach).
The entire time the player is participating in the drill he should be yelling something like, "pass, pass, pass". This lets all the players know that the play is a pass. When the ball is thrown the player should yell "ball". This let's all the players know the ball is being thrown.
At the end of the drill the coach will throw the ball toward the player. The player should try to catch the ball. If he does then the player should yell "bingo" or a similar word that will let the defense know the ball has been intercepted.
This drill teaches a player what to do while playing zone or watching the quarterback during a passing play.
During a football game there are a lot of little things that every player must do in order for the team to play well. Football drills help teach a player how to perform correctly on each and every play. These football drills can involve the entire team or the offense and defense separately.
