ME AND FOOTBALL
I was about 17 when I first decided on a team I liked. My Dad was a Chicago Bear's fan, but just wasn't into them.So I decided, it would be? Wait let me give you a clue, "The LOVE BOAT." Ya that's right, it's the VIKINGS
They happened to be playing the Bears. The uniforms were awesome, and number 55 was a HOTTIE! Yes, that would be Scott Studwell. I was hooked. Remember I was 17. At that time, I didn't care if they won or lost, just as long as Scott was playing.
Now, after many years, it's all about WINNING!
I am not an expert, but my knowledge and research will help you have a better understanding about football.

What team does your man like? Let me provide you with a link, so you can learn more about them, and impress the heck out of him.
NFL

Lets go girls, and kick some butt!
TIME TO VOTE
Be honest
This is your chance to let me know, how you truly feel about FOOTBALL?
FOOTBALL BASICS
Part One
I'd like to start off with a quote, just to give you a little hope."Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein."
- Joe Theismann
Need I say more?
Okay lets suit up, and get busy. And don't be spittin chew on yourselves.
Questions? I didn't think so, pipe down and start reading.
The football field is 100 yards, plus two 10 yard end zones.
There are four fifteen-minute quarters of playing time, which equals out to be about three hours. Let me see, 4 X15 doesn't exactly add up to three hours. But between scoring, time outs, and the clock stopping, you will see how quickly one hour becomes three.
After the first and third quarter there is a two minute break, and the teams switch sides, and start play where they left off.
After the second quarter there is a fifteen minute intermission known as half time.
Each game features two teams playing against each other.
Each team is allowed 11 men on the field at a time. Any more than 11 could result in a penalty.
Unlimited substitution is permitted, but players may only enter the field when the ball is dead.
Each team is comprised of an offense, defense, and special teams.
If team A has possession of the ball, they use their offensive team to attempt to advance the ball toward the opponents endzone.
If team B has the ball, team A will use their defensive team to attempt to stop team B from advancing the ball.
If a kicking play is expected, both teams will use their special teams.
The game starts with a COIN TOSS The team that wins has the choice of kicking off or receiving the kick. The losing team chooses which goal they would like to defend.
The game begins when one of the teams kicks off to the other.
The receiving team must catch the ball and try to advance it as far back toward the kicking team as possible.
The play ends when the player with the ball is knocked to the ground (tackled), or makes it all the way to the kicking team's endzone (touchdown).
The spot where the kick returner was tackled becomes the line of scrimmage. The line of scrimmage is a term for the place the ball is spotted before a play is run.
Once this starting point is established, the offensive squad of the receiving team will come in and try to move the ball toward the opposition's end zone.
Now you can have your halftime. Check out the "You Tube," clip. Then it's part two
FOOTBALL BASICS
Part Two
You guys are doing great, back for more, that's the spirit. No Sally's here (translation, no cry babies).Reminds me of a quote,
"The road to Easy Street goes through the sewer."
- John Madden
No one said this is going to be easy!
Football teams move a ball along a field using passing, catching, running, and kicking skills in an effort to score points. Points are earned by scoring a touchdown (six points), an extra point (worth one or two points), a field goal (three points), or a safety (two points). A touchdown is scored when a player carries the ball or catches a pass over the opponent's goal line in the end zone.
Every offensive play from the line of scrimmage is called a "down." The offense gets four downs to try to advance the ball at least ten yards. If successful, a "first down" is awarded, and the offensive team gets four more tries to gain ten yards. If, after three downs the offense does not think it will reach the first down marker it may choose to "punt" the ball. Possession of the football is then turned over to the defensive team.
The team scoring the greater number of points in the allotted time wins the game.
Did you know? The Gallup Poll has shown football to be America's favorite sport every year since 1972, when football first overtook baseball in popularity.

PENALTIES
Great if it isn't your team
Coach Chloe doesn't want any cheaters. Here are a list of penalties taken from the NFL RulebookPenalty Flag!
Any violation of the rules results in a penalty and/or a loss of a down. To signal that a penalty has occurred the referee tosses a yellow flag on the field.
Illegal Procedure - Before the ball is snapped, the offensive linemen must assume a set position. If a lineman jerks his body, the offense is penalized five yards.
Encroachment (or Offside) - Occurs when a player crosses the "neutral zone" prior to the ball being snapped. This violation costs the offense five-yards.
Clipping - When a player blocks an opponent from behind and below the waist, the result is a fifteen-yard penalty.
Holding - Called against any player who uses his hands or arms in an attempt to restrain an opponent moving without the ball. Holding results in a ten-yard penalty.
Interference - A player may not bump, grab, or hinder the progress of another player attempting to catch a pass. This violation may be called against an offensive or defensive player. It yields a yardage penalty or the ball is placed at the spot where the penalty occurred.
Face Mask - Occurs when a player grabs an opponent's face mask. The resulting penalty is fifteen yards, unless it is deemed unintentional, then it is only five yards.
Read 'em, and weep!
"I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid."
- Terry Bradshaw

FOOTBALL TRIVIA
I love finding out things about some of my favorite players. You can too, Check out, FOOTBALL TRIVIA
If you haven't the time, here are a few:
Who was the first player drafted in the first NFL draft in 1936? Jay Berwanger was the top selection in the first-ever NFL draft (1936). Originally drafted by Philadelphia, his rights were sold to Bears coach George Halas. But his asking price of $25,000 for two seasons was too high, and he never signed a contract--instead taking a job as a foam-rubber salesman. He died of lung cancer in 2002.
What team won the first night football game ever played? Baseball's Philadelphia Athletics, managed by Connie Mack, and the Philadelphia Phillies formed professional football teams in 1902, joining the Pittsburgh Stars in the first attempt at a pro football league, named the National Football League. The Athletics won the first night football game ever played, 39-0 over the Kanaweola Athletic Club at Elmira, New York, November 21, 1902.
What Dallas Cowboy had his helmet stolen at the 1994 Super Bowl? Emmitt Smith's stolen Super Bowl helmet was returned to him several weeks after the 1994 Super Bowl, following an anonymous phone call to Valley Ranch. The caller was granted assurance that no questions would be asked. (Betcha didn't know that, Tom).
Who was the MVP of the first Super Bowl? Bart Starr was MVP of the first two Super Bowls, regular season MVP in 1966, NFL Man of the Year, Professional Player of the Decade, and the first winner of the Byron White Award. Starr led the Green Bay Packers to 5 NFL titles and 2 Super Bowl wins. He later served as head coach of the Packers (1975-83).
Who was the first player to rush for 1000 yards in a season? Beattie Feathers, of the Chicago Bears, rushed for 1004 yards in 1934. Remarkably, he did it in only 119 carries, giving him an amazing 8.4 yards per carry average!
Ladies, I have one last quote. Hopefully all of you have heard of this women?
"The reason women don't play football is because eleven of them would never wear the same outfit in public."
-Phyllis Diller

I absolutely LOVE THIS PAGE!!! Football is my favorite sport. I never was much of a girlie girl, even tried (many moons ago) to help get a girl's team started in High School! That went over REAL WELL..NOT!! LOL...GREAT LENS..5*'s for sure. Posted July 31, 2008 |

this was very informative--good job. If you are thinking of expanding you might do something about the differences between college and pro football. They are subtle but important to understand I think. also, if you bolded some of the terms it would be more "scan-able" but that's a small thing. Posted September 24, 2007 |
