Football Card Collecting Tips

When you first start collecting cards it can be crazy. There are so many types of packs , types of cards , price guides , stores , sellers , and more. One person might tell you one thing , while another person tells you another , and you don't want to get ripped off by paying to much for a card.So here are a few tips for getting started.
1.Decide what you are going to do with you cards. Are you going to invest in cards and sell them later for a profit? Are you going to collect them to look at them? Are you going to just collect autograph cards?Decide what you want to do.
2.Get a price guide. It would be a very good thing to get a price guide , and you might even carry it around with you to garage sells , flea markets , and card shops. If you ever want to know the price of a card , just go to your car and have a look in the price guide.
3.When looking to buy a card , there are several things to look at.You should look at the corner wear , or how sharp the corner is.You should look for creases in the card. You should look for how centered a card it, or how even the borders around the card are.And , although rather rare , you should look for alterations , like trimming , where the seller has trimmed a side of the card to try to increase the centering ,therefore increasing the value.
4.Look for flaws such as slanted borders , lums and bubbles on the surface of the card ,if puzzles on the back have been scratched off,if the card has been scratched,if there are rubber band marks ,if something has been spilled on the card , etc.
5.Look for insert cards, or cards that are different from the base set. These cards could include jersey or game ball swatches, autographs, limited edition cards, special designs, etc.
6.Preserve your cards.Use plastic casings and card sheets to preserve your cards. These can be purchased for a cheap price at just about any card store.
7.Get your card graded. If you have a great card, and would like to have it graded on a 1-10 scale, send it off to beckett or another grading sevice. This increases the value, and they also send it back to you in a very hard plastic case that doesn't open. This ensures the value of the card.
8.Selling your cards.Look in price guides , and sell you cards at a resonable price. Also , think about who you are selling to.If the person you are selling the card to is going to resale it , you probably aren't getting the most you can. Also , use

Pick 25 Players of whatever sport you collect(or all sports U collect) and stick with them. Only switch out players if they decline terribly and replace with another up and comer. My advice is to pick 10 legends, 10 current established stars, and 5 investment players of rookies from that year which these 5 rotate in and out as years change. Choose wisely, use your gut, use your heart, and no matter how unpopular your favorites are with others, stick with them. You will be Alot happier with your collection with players you like and follow than if you just go with who is trendy at the time. I also advise that you collect all cards of your favorite teams of each sport you follow as well as 1 or 2 college teams. This allows you to pass on a tradition throughout your families generations and will teach you and others a great deal about the history of your teams players and storyline. Happy Hunting and remember collecting cards is supposed to be fun, not a capitolistic feeding frenzy of who is hot at the moment, stick with your favorites regardless of how bad their cards may decline. I still collect Bo Jackson, Don Mattingly, Larry Johnson(NBA), Randy Moss, and all LSU Tigers and Miami Hurricanes( Vikings, Yankees, and N.Y. Knicks) through thick and thin because I enjoy(ed) watching them play. This will also allow you to make money without thinking too much and keep you collection manageable. God Bless and Happy Hobbies to us all.
