Footloose Fever

My All Time Favorite Movie

Its true. I love this old 80's flick. I love Ren McCormack. I love the sound track. For awhile in my 20's its the only thing I listened to on my way to work and on my way home from work - and work was a 40 minute drive. I do have other favorite movies, but this one will always hold the number one spot for me.

What is it that makes this movie my favorite? I'm not sure. I don't live in a small town where I'm not allowed to dance. Although after watching the scene where Ariel balances between her friends car and her boyfriends truck while an oncoming semi approaches certainly had its thrill-seeking appeal for me (and happens to be my favorite part of the movie) I can't say for sure what one thing makes this my favorite movie. I suppose its like anyone's favorite movie...each scene, each character, each and everything about it makes it my favorite.

"You won't get any dancing here, it's illegal."

A little bit about the movie...

Photo courtsey of IMDBIf you're one of the few who haven't seen this 80's hit, you're certainly missing out. (ok, ok, I'll try and leave my opinions out of this section and just stick to the info)
The movie is based on a mother and son who move to a small town where there is NO dancing allowed. How can this be you ask? No dancing? Turned out that dancing and music are believed to be contributors of all things evil and to protect their children, the good parents of the town have made it illegal to have music and dancing. That means no senior prom. But wait...isn't that a right of passage?? How can those poor kids be denied the experience of senior prom? Never fear - the boy (Ren McCormack) is on a mission to turn things around and get music and dancing back. Except that in the mean time he has captured the eye of the pastors daughter Ariel.

The pastor holds fast to his belief and as Ren soon finds out, a tragic accident that had taken the life of his son is what spiked the whole no music, no dance law. With the help of Ariel and some friends that Ren manages to make they set out to change the pastors mind. A series of events take place to try and hold Ren and his friends back. Ariel's ex-boyfriend and his posse aren't too thrilled to have Ren around and the parents of the town are more confused than ever.

In the end, Ren manages to earn the respect of the pastor and the kids are granted their senior prom - in a neighboring city, but hey - they get to have music and they get to dance!
