Foreman Grills - The Good...and The Bad?

At this point, Foreman grills are almost as American as apple pie. How many times have we seen George "knocking out the fat" on TV? When they first came out, everyone I knew ranted and raved about how great they were, so I went out and bought one.
It was pretty good, but eventually the non-stick coating wore off, and it had to be tossed. Now, I haven an updated version (see below for reviews and pros and cons), and store shelves are packed with all different versions of Foreman grills.
If you're thinking of getting a grill for yourself or someone else, then I will try to collect information on as many Foreman grills that I can. The good, the bad and yea, even the ugly ones! Haha. I hope this lens helps you decide.

Foreman 3-Plates Stainless Steel Grill

This is one of the higher-priced Foreman grills, and happens to be the one that I own! It's a pretty big grill (it can fit 4 burgers comfortably), yet it's not so big it can't be stored in a cabinet. It has removable plates, which is great for me because I'm a lazy cleaner-upper and I like that I can just throw the plates in the dishwasher.
(By the way, I love the way this grill looks too!)
As mentioned, you can cook burgers, plus it cooks chicken breasts and fish well. (The only issue here is that I prefer to use thin chicken, and it doesn't cook those as well since the top plate doesn't close enough to smoosh thin food. In that case, I need to flip the chicken to cook both sides well.)
My favorite use is for panini sandwiches. It works really, really well for those.
It also comes with another flat plat where you can cook eggs, bacon, stir frys and basically anything else requiring a flat grill. I actually haven't used this one so I can't say how well it works.
There are definitely a couple of annoying downsides to this grill. For one, I can't open the lid when the Foreman is under a cabinet. It's too big. Which means I need to pull it out a little bit. But the cord is so short, it doesn't come out very far! So, it's a little awkward opening it up for me. You may not have that issue though if your cabinets are high enough.
Overall, I enjoy this grill and use it about 2-3 times a month.

This is also one of the higher-priced Foreman grills, but I wanted to take a look at it since it had lots of good reviews.
This one is round, which is pretty cool, and comes with 5 dishwasher-safe plates. The plates included are: 2 ribbed grill plates, 2 quesadilla plates, and 1 deep-dish plate for pizzas, griddling and baking. It seems to be very versatile, which is great when you're investing in a pretty big appliance that's going to take a lot of counter space.
Unlike some of the other Foreman grills, this one flattens out so that it makes cooking on the flat plate much easier.
Most of the reviews on this grill are positive, but I have read several saying that the removable just don't get hot enough. That makes the food more "steamed" than "grilled".

This is a smaller, lower-priced grill than the first couple that I featured. The reviews are fairly good (3.5 stars overall on Amazon).
Like the original old-school grill, it has a bun warmer on the lid. (I do miss my bun warmer!) You can fit 4 small burgers on this grill or a couple of nice-sized chicken breasts. Most of the reviewers said that it's a great grill, cooks food quickly and easily and is surprisingly easy to clean up. (See my tip below for easy cleaning!)
A few people did mention that the bun warmer lid is cheaply made and falls off. Also, the plates aren't removable and therefore, you can't just stick them in the dishwasher like I prefer to do! :)
Overall, this seems to be a good grill for the price.
Easy Cleaning Tip for Foreman Grills:
While your grill is still warm, wet a paper towel and wipe it clean. The warmth of the plates allows the food to come off much easier.

Looking at all the different Foreman grills, it looks like this one has the highest amount of positive reviews (4.5 stars!). So, let's take a look and see why this grill is so great.
It has 5 removable plates that allows you to cook a wide variety of foods such as waffles, burgers, chicken, panini sandwiches (my favorites, of course!), vegetables, bacon and pretty much anything else you can think of. Because the plates are removable, you can stick them in the dishwasher for easy cleaning.
One reviewer suggested that this is such a versatile and easy-to-use grill, that she won't need to go out to eat as often. A time and money saver? What can be better? I saw a couple of reviews that waffles cook nicely in this grill. Mmm, waffles! And that means one less appliance to purchase or to sit on your counter top.
A couple of people mentioned that the non-stick surface starts to peel off after a while. (And I do remember that happening with my original grill). One reviewer said the plates are easy to clean, but when you open the lid, the drippings fall to the back of the appliance making it hard to clean. But, I think that's just something you have to deal with when you have any kind of appliance like this. (I have a waffle maker that does the same thing!)
It's really hard to find many bad reviews on this grill, so if you're considering getting one of the Foreman grills, this should definitely be one to consider!
