Forex - Online Trading

Online forex trading is an easy way to break into the world of Forex. Most online brokers have made it extremely easy to open a online trading account. One of the most popular online trading software platforms is MetaTrader 4 - (MT4).

If you download and install the trading software directly form MetaQuotes; the software will be configured to utilize MetaQuotes demonstration trading servers, which provide Data Quotes to the software. The demo mode allows a trader to practice trading different trading systems either fully automated by the trading software or manually in slightly delayed "real-time". You can input the specific information to a selected broker account if you have the username, password, and server address. This usually involves opening an account with an online broker who supports online forex trading using MT4 as the trading software. This can be a demonstration (demo) account or a "Live" real currency account.

Trading with "real" currency involves establishing an account with an online broker who supports the use of MetaTrader 4 online trading software. There are a number of brokers that provide MT4 for download from their site. You can establish a "Demo" account with them by completing some simple forms online - like "name", "email", etc... The brokers who support MT4 will usually provide you with a download link to the MetaTrader4 trading software. It is best to download the MT4 Trading Software from the broker, as the software comes pre-configured to connect to that specific broker's trading servers.

There are a few "kinks" when it comes to online trading that a trader should watch out for. Be sure and read plenty of online broker reviews by trading clients. You will find both good and bad comments. There seems to be some room for data/price manipulation as currency price data makes it to the trader's software platform on your computer. Quoted prices from the broker often vary from one broker to another. There seems to be different spreads and a wide variation in actual currency prices.

This is where your ability to come up with a really good "Expert Advisor" comes into play. An expert advisor is a small program that sets trading parameters and trading systems through the use of PHP code and other factors. An expert advisor is usually based upon an "Indicator".

An "Indicator" is a small program that interprets data quotes and then determines, based upon guidelines and systems, when to trade and what direction to trade the market. Some common indicators are Moving Average (MA), Exponential Moving Average (EMA), Stochastic, Standard Deviations of Prices, and there is a bunch more.

When I first started trading online forex, I chose to use the MT4 trading software because there were plenty of free resources available. Everybody likes free things and I am no different! There are many great resources available for free online to support this type of trading software. Basically MT4 is a trading software application that specifically communicates securely with your online broker. There are a number of online forex brokers who support the use of MT4 and more are joining the community everyday.
