Forgive and Forget - Should we do that?

Ranked #5,062 in Culture & Society, #107,412 overall

HERE'S WHAT I THINK

Forgive and Forget - Should we do that?

Forgiveness is a choice that releases the individual from all the negative emotions and bondage that was once kept within. this debate will deal with what happens after forgiveness: forgetting. some believe that it is essential that one forgets the wrongdoings that were committed after forgiveness is extended and received because forgiveness without forgetting seems to be incomplete, with the shadow of the wrongdoings lingering on in the background. it can be seen as a couple who continually forgives each other of their mistakes and brings them up in the subsequent quarrel. yet to forgive and forget seems to give the wrongdoer a fresh start to commit more wrongdoings. what if crimes and severe wrong doings are never recorded and serial wrongdoers keep going away with a clean record time after time?

Yes, Forgive & Forget!

arunadavis says:

Forgive and remember to forget!

bluewren56 says:

Forgive and forget, otherwise you will be become bitter inside. Find the positive, and dwell on this. Great lens.

cffutah says:

enjoy life, don't die from an overdose of stress

JoyfulReviewer says:

I believe we should forgive and forget. If we keep dwelling on the wrong or hurtful thing done to us, then it's too easy for hostile feelings and strife to develop. And you haven't *really* forgiven the person.

GabrielaFargasch says:

To forgive someone is to have blamed and judged... Therefore we only need to forgive ourselves for have blamed and judged someone else.....

ajgodinho says:

I believe it's forgive and forget. It's important to remember that each one of us has a responsibility for our actions and there are consequences too. But in terms of forgiving, we have to let go of it, if we forgive and remember, that means we're still holding on to it.

DessertLover says:

I always try to live like the good Lord tells us, and that's to forgive and move on. Even though it's tough, it's always best.

No way, Forgive, AND REMEMBER!

Heather says:

Forgive and forget but remember not to make that same mistake. (not to risk it again.

chrisssy says:

Depending on the situation. Bad enough? Get even. I've had some terrible people in my life but i'll never get through life blaming them for the wrongs i've done, so I forgive but emotional scars make things impossible to forget. Sometimes, even for the worst of the worst you shouldn't forget because we can learn from the experience

Wolfyy7 says:

I was assaulted a year ago and when I bumped into the man who assaulted me I forgave him but I could never allow myself to forget. I have a scar and for me to forget would be careless on my part...

Great lens but it's not the first bit of advice I would take or pass down. The first and only time I forgave and forgot, I got pulled back in to a cycle of abuse

Thank you for a very thought-provoking lens! If we don't forgive, then God can't forgive us. We should learn from wrongs we've committed, as well as from those that others have committed against us. But we should not harbor grudges; we should move on and strive to be more loving.

Forgiveness, whether we receive it or give it, is just amazing. There is such freedom in forgiveness. It helps us move on and continue building relationships no matter how hard. Of course, some people abuse of the forgiveness, they will suffer the consequences of it, but as far as forgiveness goes, help us Lord to be forgiving, just like you are! :)
  • Philippians468 Jun 17, 2011 @ 1:53 am | delete
